Community Pool

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for feedback, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else.

If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Read on for the ground rules and to leave a comment . .

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling. If you simply leave a link to your blog, it’s likely to be overlooked.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.

    1. i love the quirky comparisons you draw throughout your posts – particularly marriage and anal sex! very humorous but a serious undertone. regarding reaching a greater audience you could build up a rep on other sites and constantly link back to this blog – twitter is a common one or similar sites to what you blog about; for example as a book reviewer i link my goodreads account to my blog 🙂 hope this helps, keep on blogging x

  2. Hello 🙂 I started my blog to help school kids deal with issues like bullying, because I know what a big deal it is and how difficult it is to deal with. I write it in the form of a story (so hopefully it’s entertaining) and the main character will demonstrate how she stands up for herself 🙂 I’ve added humour too (A lot)…Please let me know what you think. 😀

    1. I would think it is great as i am a kid and it was a great story because you tell us about these stuff which i am not even aware of as kids in my school do not bully.

  3. Hey everybody, i realise i’m a bit late to this post so i hope there’s still some people paying attention. I’ve had this blog for ages but never used it so recently transformed it into a book review page (with the occasional random thought and film review) – as a media student i really want people to engage with it and hopefully find people with common interests/taste in books.
Any tips of tricks for me? I’ve only been maintaining it properly for 2 or 3 weeks!

  4. Hi everyone, I did a post on WP daily prompt but for some reason the ‘pingback’ does not seem to work and I cannot see my entry in their site. My link works alright which led me to DP but I cannot find my entry on theirs. The is the first time something like this has happened to me. Does anyone know the reason why?

    1. Welcome to blogging! Okay, so I am still sort of new (began in March) there are a few ways you can attract an audience. Well today is a great start. There are so many blogger that respond to the community posts. You can randomly visit blogs and perhaps you’ll like a few enough to follow. Another option is to participate in daily prompts, weekly writing challenges or the photo challenge. When you participate you enable a pingback (you insert the page URL at the beginning or bottom of your posts) and this adds you to a sort of list. And others will most likely take a look around your space. You can also use the tag sorter to visit blogs that write on similar topics as yours or just any topic you are interested in. When you locate the blog, read and offer feedback. Building a community is key. Blogging is about writing, and communicating.

      1. Hi, thank you so much on your feedback i really feel like an apprentice who has to learn about all those technical stuff that you “old” bloggers already know (daily prompts, pingback, etc). I’ll definitely try the tag sorter. I read a blog last week stating: “blogging is a conversation not a code” which is true in all cases. I hope to learn more with your advice. Thanks again.

  8. Hey everyone! So my blog is about the randomness of a teenager in her last year as a teenager – me! And all the things that crop up in my life, my bad experiences and good ones and things I’ve learnt along the way through mistakes and successes. Im presenting this to people just in case I happen to help other teens like me or even for the curiosity of adults to see the life of a teenager in words. Inspired by a book called “being a girl” – please take a look, give me some suggestions and feedback good or bad welcome, I’d really appreciate it 🙂 :

  9. Hello All! I’m fairly new around here and am using my site as a chance to dust off my writing skills. Right now, I’m writing about whatever strikes my fancy (my family, travels, books I read, insights, etc…) and will eventually add original fiction. I’ve been tagging my posts but not categorizing them – what’s the difference? Is one better than the other, or is using both the best way to organize your content? Any advice, ideas, insight would be much appreciated!

  10. I begain blogging about three months ago. I would like your advice on my writing. Is there anything that I need to do in order to make the writing more captivating? Are the titles of the posts interesting enough to pull you in to read? Are there enough pictures inserted within the posts? If you have any other suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance for taking your time to help me out with my blog.

  11. Hello! I’m a relatively new blogger and have been trying particularly to work on 2 things: humor and brevity. I tend to beat a dead horse rather than let the readers draw their own conclusions. I’d truly appreciate comments on these 2 issues with respect to this post: http://wp.me/p4k8K7-5M. Did the Robert’s Rules comment make you chuckle? Was I too wordy explaining the metaphor? Thanks in advance!

Ive been writing a simple blog about my life as a 21 year old living in a big british city for a few months now, and it’s always been a private thing, but I’d quite like the thought of somebody reading it as I know i love reading similar blogs to mine. 13. Now i had a page from here/wordpress that explained how to put videos on and can’t seem to find it. i uploaded one and when it appears on the screen viewers would have to download but I want it on when page opens or at least visable for them to play. help a techno deficient blogger.

      1. In wordpress, it is not possible to upload video. only link to video can be embedded.
if u hv a video file, upload it on youtube will be quite easy.
then sharing link on wordpress works fine.

      2. Ok me again. If I cut and paste the link in a post the publish. Does it them come up on post as a link or as footage. Just don’t want to post in case it only comes up that way not as footage.

      3. If you copy and paste the youtube video link, it will appear as footage, and not as a link.

It will be advisable if you may save it as draft to see how it will appear to readers and then make your decision to publish or not.
        regards

    1. Hi! Great blog! I know what you mean by it feeling a little cluttered though, I think it is your sidebar. I would try removing a couple of things from there to minimise the width it takes up on the page. Other than that I really liked it. 🙂

    2. I see you battle with your emotions a lot, which can be good and bad depending on how you use them. I enjoyed your blogs I have been in the child situation before, I would suggest good emotion energy around the child all the time, have things plans like future goals, and 101 time, the child only feeds of the parents emotions and feelings. ooh and giver her good books that is something she can do at both parents houses.

      1. Thank you for the thoughts. Yes, good emotional energy is important for children no matter the age. I make sure to put on a happy face and teach them to breathe and care for their hearts health.
Really what I was asking though was if my ‘Pages’ were easy to navigate. ?
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. It meant a lot to me.

  15. Happy Sunday everyone. I started a new weekly series on my blog called “Better Pissed Off than Pissed On”. Looking for feedback on my explanation for the weekly segment. I’m new to blogging so I need your input in order to grow. Be as harsh as necessary. I can take it. Its: http://www.theprettyplatform.com

    1. Hi! I just checked out your blog and had a look at the new segment (a brilliant idea by the way). I did like the explanation although I would watch the use of commas. Being a serial comma-er myself I know how easy it can be to put a few too many in. I find it can just break up the flow of the writing for the reader. But I really like your blog and will definitely be checking out what you post next! 🙂

      1. Thank you so much for the feedback. I will definitely watch my comma usage. I wouldn’t want to put off my readers. Do you think just shorter sentences would have a greater impact? The writing with commas was just an imitation of my form of actual speaking. I will tone it down for sure. Thank you again.

      2. Absolutely. I write in the same way and am always having to watch commas. Shortening sentences can definitely provide a greater impact. Have a fiddle around and just see whats comfortable with your style and go from there. 🙂 Glad to help
