Community Pool

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for feedback, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else.

If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Read on for the ground rules and to leave a comment . .

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling. If you simply leave a link to your blog, it’s likely to be overlooked.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. I am still promoting ‘share your suburb challenge’. This is a page dedicated on my blog so everyone who write something about your hometown, markets, festivals, etc or places your visit, please pingback to me. I am hoping to make this page as interactive as possible so anyone that come in will see a whole listing of suburbs and interesting places in the world to visit.

    1. The title of your blog turned me off and don’t even want to go there. Surely you can come up with something nice. 🙂

      1. 🙂 you are very judgmental. It’s mostly about breast cancer. The title is lighthearted and cheeky because that’s how I’ve chosen to treat something so serious in my life. You don’t have to read it.. Not fussed. Thanks 🙂

  3. Hey all! I started Spectrum Bloggers Network just over a month ago to try to bring together bloggers who discuss specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, autism, aspergers etc. We’ve just started a thing called Topic Tuesday where we set a topic for the week and encourage bloggers on the network to discuss it. I’m hoping it’s a way to create extra promotion for our bloggers. Would love to hear your thoughts http://spectrumbloggers.wordpress.com/

  4. I have a blog about books that consists of book reviews, opinion pieces, and sometimes the odd picture/quote here and there. I would love to expand my audience, but sometimes I wonder if the posts are too been-there-done-that and that’s why no one is reading. It would be great if you could look at my blog and some of the writing links I’ve posted and give me any feedback about the writing and if you have suggestions of improving.

    1. Hi Franz. A whole lot of nice pics there, but I guess they make loading your homepage heavy. It might be a good idea to (either one or both):
1). use the ‘more tag’ (show the first 4-5 pics only on the homepage).
2). set the pic smaller on every post (didn’t change the real size)–check here:

      The place

(try click on any pic, you’ll know what I mean).

Another thing. Apart from that ‘About me’ link, adding an ‘About’ page ia still quite OK since you can have people make some comments this way.
      Good luck.

  5. I just started blogging and I enjoy it, it’s like a therapy session 🙂 I wanted to write a blog about my journey. I gave up smoking after 35 years and I had no idea what I got myself into. So it’s still a journey and this post showed the humorous side (so I hope).

    Quitting is easier with Yoda…

I know my subject is not really interesting! However it helps me to stay focused and I believe I already inspired another longtime smoker…That would be great! Well thank you for reading!

  8. Hello, I recently changed my theme for my blog and so I was wondering if it fit the subject material, which is creative writing and articles. Also, I would like some input as to my actual post too. Are they too long? Too short? Is there anything you think I’ve left out?

  9. Hey there fellow content creators. I just recently started a wordpress blog, and I’m curious as to what seasoned bloggers here would suggest as far as aesthetics go. Basically, if you could take a look at my blog and offer me any suggestions as far as sprucing it up, if it’s good the way it is (it’s pretty plain Jane), what you found success with, etc. That would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help offered.

  10. Hi! I have only recently starting blogging but really enjoy it and am always looking for new ways to try and imrpove.
Some feedback i have been given so far is that in order to find my posts funny (which i intend them to me) you have to know me and how i speak. I would really appreciate if anyone is able to read my posts and tell me if anything was unclear and any tips for improving on this.

    1. Hey! I just checked out your blog and had a read through your posts. And I have to say that I really enjoyed it! I think we have a similar writing style actually – I tend to write as I speak, a really conversational tone. I thought your posts were very easy to read and a lot of fun too! I particularly liked the ‘Which bus line is this anyway’ post (P.S. Was that title a ‘Whose Line is it Anyway’ pun? haha classic – too good!) Anyways, I will definitely be checking out what you post next!

  11. Hey, once again I’d like feedback on my layout and header. I took advice from last week and changed the font. arpeggiovixen.com

I’m trying to figure out a color scheme and layout that is legible and appeals to both genders.

    1. Hello! Personally, I think the title embedded in your header doesn’t really “pop out”. Since it’s black text set over a brown background, it’s harder to read visually. That is, it’d be more aesthetically pleasing if it were a light color against a dark background or a dark color against a light background. You could even outline the black text in a lighter color if you’d like to keep it black! I’m not sure if you wanted advice on the font you’re using, but I think a different one would better display your content. The current font you have right now for the title of your blog posts is very thin and unwelcoming. I know that sounds a bit odd, but I’m not quite sure how to state what I mean! It just visually conflicts with the font used in the blog posts themselves. Also, the SHARE THIS option at the end of your posts is nearly unreadable. I’m not sure if you bolded the text or not, but that may be the problem. Aside from all that, I think the concept behind your blog is extremely creative. Writing from the perspective of a musician with common problems that don’t really get talked about is interesting and unique. I wish you well with it in the future, and I hope my comments can be of some use to you! 🙂
