Community Pool

Looking for feedback on your latest draft or your new header? Find critique and camaraderie in the Community Pool.

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for input, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else.

If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer). A few guidelines:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling. If you simply leave a link to your blog, it’s likely to be overlooked.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  2. Hello everyone, I’ve been self-hosted on wordpress.org for years (using Bluehost) and now I’m considering moving back to wordpress.com due to the cost of self-hosting. I used to have a lot of revenue from BlogHer, but that’s dropped drastically over the last year.

I’m looking for input from those who have made the transition. How did you go about exporting/importing and did you lose anything? I’ve got about 9 years worth to relocate on two blogs http://www.thatsmyanswer.com and http://www.outsidemyhead.com.

    Thanks!

  4. Good morning everyone. I would love feedback on my blog. http://stonesoupwithkarensamenow.wordpress.com
I’m an artist, & a writer, so currently I’m posting once a week. My layout needs help, & since I’m fairly new to blogging, I don’t fully understand how to achieve a clean format. After all, I grew up in the stone age! It’s great that we can all work together, helping each other, & sharpening ours kills. Thank you in advance for the interaction.

  5. Hello everyone! I am looking for some feedback on my theme (format) for my blog. I don’t know if I am using the best one that makes sense with the content I am posting about (reviews of local ‘things to do’). I would also like the social engagement ‘follow’ buttons to be at the top of the homepage rather than towards the bottom. Any thoughts? Suggestions? The blog I need help with is offtheinstallation.com

      1. I believe so; I’ve never been Freshly Pressed either so I can’t say for sure but considering that we get notifications for smaller things, it does seem likely that we would get one for this too. Plus I think you’ll notice when people start flocking to your blog in their hundreds and thousands! 😀

    1. I just took a look at your blog and I was unable to read it. The theme is too small, the words too tiny. Perhaps others have a different outlook, but for me, I took a look and within seconds, closed it. I think you should begin by playing around with your theme a bit more.

  8. Fellow writer these last days I’m writing one poem everyday. As I’am doing Napowrimo, I would like some of you to go to take a look on my blog. Don’t care about the colours and layout on my blog. I will improve it with the time. At the moment I would like your feeback about my poem which I wrote by first of April.

  9. Hi Jill. I personally prefer a changing home page over a static one. Looks like you write on a wide range of topics, so your navigation is helpful. This may be more a matter of personal taste than a critique, but as a fellow blogger suggested to me, having catchier titles to your posts might inspire more readers. I can see some were personal in nature, so I’m not judging. Just thought I’d pass that along. Once I applied that advice I saw a (small) uptick in viewers on my travel blog

  10. Hey guys! im trying to find the perfect ‘theme’ for my blog to help brand it. It’s only a month old and is sort of a “salad” blog where I blog about basic 20-something life issues that I personally come across in my daily life. It also includes weekly motivation segments and uch. http://www.sarahalwani.com

    Any input is appareciated!!

  13. Hi Everyone, I joined the blogging 101 class then saw this and thought I would ask you (anyone) how to get my blog out to specific audience. I love reading blogs and interacting, I just don’t know how to get people to mine and to give me any feedback. I do tag them.. but I’m not sure if there is more I should be doing? If anyone would be open to checking my blog out and letting me know what I could be doing that would be awesome.
I have been blogging for awhile now, (for years actually) but I deleted it a few times due to its really personal content and my not yet being ok with myself, my recovery, my story. I have just recently figured out how to read others …duh! Anyway…any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. Here’s my link http://bottlethemoment.com/

In case no one has reported it, the weekly challenge posts are down on DP. I just tried to access Monument and Poetry and both gave me an error message.

  15. I am using the theme “yoko’ on my primary blog. I like it OK, but don’t like the look of the cover photo. Can I change the cover photo? I am looking forward to learning so much more, but these number of comments are too much to read. What are you all doing about that? thanks, gerry

  16. Hello. I’m brand new here. Made my first post last week. Feeling pretty psyched! I have some expectations but no idea how to meet them. I don’t have a PC right now though so I’m only blogging on my Android phone. So I’m sure I’m seeing all I should as far as menus and such. I’d like to make a tagline. I have a concept for my blog but I don’t know how to make it real. Money is tight. I chose a free theme, Wrtr. I was glad I could make it red, my favorite color but I don’t know much about “what it’s supposed to look like” in order to have a tagline (same as header?) or profile pic. If anyone could please offer suggestions on my blog they would be appreciated. I’m working on the about me page also. Thank you.

    1. Hello, perhaps you could make the details of when and where you will be selling your products stand out a bit more, as well as links. I like the way you write personally, but it doesn’t stand out as it takes over the width of the page so maybe you could make the margins of your text a bit narrower. Add a widget to make things stand out more – you can have all sorts of things on the side, including text, in which you could put the aforementioned location and dates.

In your Reader, type in tags such as beauty or anything that seems relevant to find blogs that are similar to yours. Learn from them, follow them and comment on them and the number of views on your own blog will increase. Hope this helped!

    1. I think it could do with being a bit more colourful but that should develop slowly anyway as your blog grows. Perhaps you could move all the social networking widgets to one side because at the moment I’m not sure where to look as I scroll down. Also try to limit the number of tweets to 3 because it seems a bit long but it might not seem so when you add more posts I suppose. You could think about having a static homepage and putting your blog on a separate page. Hope this helps.
