Trains because they’re faster, more comfortable, cleaner (at least than the car I use!) and more spacious. The only downside is there’s less flexibility and independence but I’m still a passenger anyway 🙂

There is something special about a train journey! but these days its more the anticipation than the experience! If they are not late, they are overcrowded and smelly because the toilets broken!

Automobile!
A 500 mile trip by car is the best, especially if I have all of the survival tools needed. I don’t have to worry about things like;
– what I can’t take (I can bring that family size bottle of toothpaste, mouthwash, no worries about baggage weight/limits)
– no stress about time constraints (leave when I want, no rushing, can make as many stops along the way as needed)
– can’t beat the scenery experience
So all in all, the car is the best method for me. 🙂

1. The plane: but you miss so much scenery. Don’t like the part of having to arrive early at the airport though. Still you can still do some work while waiting and flying.
2. The car: I love driving, but not if you hit a traffic jam. You can experience some scenary, but it can be more tiring and stressful. And you can’t get any work done – really!
3. The train – the most expensive way of doing the journey to be honest. But you can get some work done and can see the countryside as you go.

Like your reply…covering all bases. And you’re right, there’s something to be said for all 3 modes of transportation. I’ve traveled extensively by plane since my daughter lives 3,000 miles from my husband and me. So while I’m grateful for airplanes, I still find sitting in uncomfortable seats for 5 or more hours a real pain…everywhere.
When my husband retires, I think I’ll look forward to more road trips. As you say, viewing the scenery is a plus, especially the countryside. Cities are interesting, but give me wide, open spaces anytime. I’m an island girl who still loves the simpler life. 🙂

Agree about cars: love being able to throw everything in and not be subject to strip searches at the airport. But sometimes traffic can be overwhelming.
Trains- I take a commuter line to NYC and am grateful it exists. In this country there aren’t enough cross country trains. If we’re ever going to become less oil reliant, we need to adopt the ways of our European and Asian brothers and sisters- – high speed rail, etc.
Planes– hate breathing in that air. I try not to think about being up in the sky. But it gets the job done most of the time.

also— haven’t ridden my bike 500 miles, but that would be an amazing journey!

Give me a car any day. I love looking out the window, watching the scenery as the car is moving along, taking in the landscape, the hills, valleys, snow, rainbows, sunset, sunrise, all depending on the time of day the journey is taking place.
Give me a car journey any day above the train and plain.

Trains because there’s more scenic things to see than 500 miles of grass, farms, etc…

Maybe not 500 miles, but on the daily commute I’m on 4 buses and 2 trains. Although quite routine 99% of the time, last Friday’s journey almost restored my faith in humanity; until I became the bad guy…

It depend on what will you do at your destination. Will you go around to sight seeing or buying a specific thing, or just to meet your relatif, how’s facilities available overthere, etc…Think first

If I could always fly First Class or Business Class, I’d choose a plane anytime. But coach travel…not so much. Riding the Orient Express is my idea of a train ride, not commuting on the Long Island Railroad or New Haven Line. Traveling by car is the only way I know I can make a “pit stop” anytime I like…unless hubby decides we have to stick to the time schedule.

I will not enjoy traveling in car for 500 miles. I would rather in the near future travel by train,or plane which will be a new adventure for me.

Definately automobile. The last time I went on a plane will be…well, the last! Unfortunatley air travel isn’t what it used to be anymore. My son fantasizes about taking a cross-country road trip on a designated road only (he suggested Route 66), but frankly, I will take any mode of transportation that allows me to control what I can bring, when I can leave, and not have to worry about someone next to me becoming sick 🙂

For myself I like airplanesnbecause you can get to a place in less than one hour with little delay, but I especially like cars because althouth you have. To pay attention to the. Road, you can see such beautiful landscapes across these great states we have, even time to stop to get to know new people.

I am going to have to say planes:) It’s so much faster to get to where your going. Well.. Minus the delayed flights, and uncomfortable seats unless your sitting in first class:) Thats my final answer:)
