I met Telly Savalas (Kojak) in the 80s. He was shorter than I thought he would be and he was very nice. Gave me a big hug when I was introduced to him. I love the Kojak series very much.
Have a terrific day. 🙂

Years ago I met Mr. Fred Rogers before he passed, wasn’t my first encounter ( one of the first)with a celebrity but easily my most memorable,it’s strange being a little kid seeing someone practically everyday while sitting in front of your tv eating a big bowl of cereal while you learn about things that can become things important later in life and he seems to be talking to just you, like a parent or a close family friend. Then it happens,I was in Pittsburgh at the studio for a magazine shoot, someone led me through the offices and then I saw where they shoot Mr Rogers Neighborhood, turned instantly into my 5 year old self I saw the trolley, went in his famous closet and tried on the famous sweater and then this man comes in,very stylish with red framed glasses, then I realized he was Mister Rogers,so nice, but not what I expected -much more”GQ” then you would think. He wasn’t in character yet.we talked for a few minutes,I apologized for touching the stuff there ,he said “it’s okay,no big deal, looked like I was having too much fun and didn’t want to disturb me” he laughed and said nice meeting me and that was it.I’m not really the starstruck type but meeting Mr Rogers Was especially cool.

I’ve met more than my fair share. I don’t really want to name drop. In my job, it’s pretty normal to meet actors, politicians and musicians. They are really regular people. My favorites so far, The Rock, Larry the Cable Guy, Rosario Dawson and a lady most men know as a “10.”

You probably won’t know them, but Yeng Constantino and Jovit Baldivino came to my school because the PTA had organized a concert for them. Both were real nice, and Yeng looked like a real-life doll she was so pretty!

I was 16, visiting Chicago with my parents and was alone in a hotel elevator when the door opened and Chuck Mangione stepped in. He slouched in the corner, not looking up from under his hat.
I’m thinking “Is that him? Could it be him? Should I say something? What could I say that won’t sound HOPELESSLY uncool?”
This little interlude of silent angst (on my part) lasted 3 floors until he stepped off, and I dashed down to the nearest music store on Michigan Ave. to grab his latest album.
Yes, we had albums then, his was #1, and it had been him.

The celebrity I`d want to meet the most is Amerie. I really love her. The celebrity I`d least like to meet is charlie sheen. Every time i try to explain something to him, he`d tell me i wasn`t winning.

I met and had a conversation with the political advisor to former President Clinton, James Carville. I got Marini Sirtis’ autograph. I saw James Doohan pumping gas into his RV. I saw Ricky Martin at a Miami mall. There are maybe others, but I can’t think of them right now. : )

I’ve met quite a few hall of fame athletes but the one that had the biggest impact on me was a former Green Bay Packer. Check it out.

Hi I’m still here, I was going to write about the time I met Joe Giardi, but I decided to write about spiders. Be warned, arachnids make me swear.

I still might write about Joe, another day.

I met Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones on a secluded beach in Jamaica. He was so nice about giving me his autograph and taking a picture with me and my best friend Karen. It was the last shot on my roll of film (yes, it was THAT long ago. Camera, film . . .) and the picture turned out fantastic.

My first real encounter with a celebrity happened when I was a radio talk show producer at KABC Radio in Los Angeles. My title sounds impressive but truly my job consisted of keeping the FCC commercial log (read checking off commercials after airing), greeting guests, getting coffee and screening incoming calls. My first celebrity contact tragedy happened the day Maya Angelou was scheduled for an interview. I had read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and was anxious to meet this phenomenal woman. As I walked to the lobby to escort her to the studio I made the conscious decision to call her Maya out of fear of mispronouncing her last name. Youth stupidly covered me with the hard turtle-shell of ignorance. Only now do I recognize the look of displeasure that registered on the face of our guest. I kept up a stream of conversation totally ignorant Ms. Angelou’s clipped and terse responses. After settling her in the studio, I asked if she desired coffee, again, a smile-less “no.” I then proceeded to outline the morning referencing the talk show host as Mr. Jackson. That, apparently, was the last straw for her. “Oh, he’s Mister Jackson and I am just Maya!” There it was, my mistake, standing out there naked on the chewed and faded rug of studio A. My quick, first responder defense mechanisms sprung up with the words “I figured you knew who you were” dangerously teetering on the tip of my tongue. I was saved by the voice on the intercom asking for the guest. I fell into my chair holding my head. How could this have gone so wrong? What is it about me that pisses people off? I sat through the interview putting through the best of the many callers hoping Maya Angelou would accept my apology afterwards.
Later, as I escorted Ms. Angelou out of the building, I lamely apologized saying I always refer to the host in formal terms (no love lost here but that’s another story) and it was not my intention to offend. Ms. Angelou turned to me pulling her hand from mine as she said something to the effect of yes, yes. I’m sure. I do remember she her last two words to me were, “Be well.” After 36 years, I’m not sure I am.

Not Sure if I really wanna go there or if I’d be in huge violation …. raised in Minnesota land of Multiple Musical Geniuses if that gives you any clues. And I am fortunate in that the famous individual that I am writing around very much cares about people. He has stood up for me and others and has a great sense of humor….hmmmm what’s his name??? hmmmm…think, think, think… ;D
