I can never figure these dratted things out. Your instructions are so unclear, it’s not worth the effort. 😦

I had a problem too. Then I noticed when I saved there were some extra quotation marks and it was missing the http:// for both links. Just double check to make sure what you save is identical to what is on this page.

Great idea! I did have some problems with the fancy quote marks – if anyone else just gets a question mark in a box, just delete the double quotes and retype them out again.

Like the idea of the badges, but there are two of us working on our blog…is there anyway of getting a badge that says ‘We are part of post a day 2011″ instead of “I”?

The image badge is the only thing that worked for me. The HTML code provided never showed up. Would love some vistors on my blog.

Same issue with griffinshoney: html didn’t convert properly when the text widget was saved, so I used the image widget. At least that works!

You left out a step. Nowhere (not in the written instructions or the video) does it CLEARLY tell people how to get the page into the image widget. WP has a tendency to assume what people know. That intermediate step (which I just happened to figure out) of copying the badge code into the image field needs to be clearer. The video explains a different set of circumstances. If WP wants people to join the effort, hold our hand a little. Just sayin…

Nice idea! It should certainly spur me to write more often as I currently only manage 1-2 posts a month. Time to get the brain into gear!

PLEASE ! I need more literal steps to help me get the PostADay logo on my site. I have tried countless times. In vain! I need to know EXACTLY what to do, and from what point, which page – and in what order?
thanks, jenny cutler

Jenny, I shall try my best to give you a step by step method!
1) Right click on the PostADay logo you want, and choose Save. My Docs or somewhere else if you prefer.
2) Log into your WordPress account and go to your Dashboard. On the left hand side you will see a menu item called Media. Click it.
3) On the Media Library page click the button at the top called Add New.
4) On the Upload New Media page click Select Files. A window will open. Find the PostADay logo you have saved and click Open at the bottom of the window. It will then “crunch” the image – compact it to a smaller size.
5) You can add Alternate Text if you like. Maybe PostADay. This will appear when someone hovers over the image, I think!
6) Where it says File URL highlight the text, right click and select Copy.
7) At the bottom of the page click Save All Changes.
8) Now look back at the menus on the left for one that says Appearance. Click it and it should expand. If it is already expanded look for a menu beneath it called Widgets.
9) On your Widgets page you need to look for one called Image. Click, hold and drag it to the right where it should say Sidebar or Sidebar1. Release it and it should slot into place. You can move it up or down depending where you want it to appear.
10) Click the arrow next to the Image menu title you have just placed and it should expand.
11) Where it says Image URL, right click and choose Paste. This should paste in the text you copied from the Upload New Media page, for example mine looks like this:
12) Below that is the box titled Alternate Text, type in: I’m part of Post a Week 2011.
13) Do the same for the box below titled Image Title.
14) Don’t worry about the other boxes but at the bottom where it says: Link URL (when the image is clicked): type in https://wordpress.com/dailypost so that when someone clicks the logo it will take them to the DailyPost blog.
15) Click the blue Save button below and you should see a spinning thingy. When that goes click Close.
16) Take a look at your blog and see if you like the position of the logo. If not return to the Widgets page, click the Image Widget, hold it and drag it up or down.
Hopefully I haven’t missed any points out. There are different ways to do this but I figure this was easier to follow than the guide on the WordPress help section!
Scream if you have any problems!
