New Themes: Escutcheon and Orvis
Introducing two dark, minimalist free themes for writers and visual artists.
Happy Theme Thursday, everyone! Today we have two new free themes for your perusal.
Escutcheon
Escutcheon, designed by Automattic’s own Mel Choyce, boasts a smoky color palette and bold typography. It’s a striking theme for writers who want to stand out, with a front page that gives just enough information to entice your readers. Individual posts and pages are stylish and easy to read.

Orvis
Orvis, designed by Thomas Guillot, is the perfect companion for all photographers and designers. It is a minimalist, vibrant, and flexible theme, whose bold grid design keeps the spotlight on your projects, and scales to fit any screen size. Orvis also lets you share your thoughts and engage in a conversation with your visitors through the blog, which shares the same minimal look.

I wish you guys will bring back the former version of Misty Lake. These are nice for food bloggers or photographs. Longreads require something else. I am hoping for new text oriented themes for 2016 🙂

Very nice. Hoping for some serif fonts in the next batch of themes!

Both beautiful elegant themes. You WordPress peeps are always doing fine work. Thank you for all that you do. Grateful.

Always interested in seeing new themes. But a text-heavy theme should never be based on reverse type. Looking for more beautiful text-based designs (we don’t all focus on images) that feature excellent readability.

So many of these new themes seem so cold and gray, so slick and basic. It would be nice if we began seeing a few more romantic themes, a few more gently mystical and exotic themes.
