New year, new blog? Start on the right foot.
Our popular get-started course, Blogging 101, returns in January. Learn more and register.
Registration for January’s course is now closed – Blogging 101 will be back in February!
Thinking of starting a blog, or re-committing to an older one? Blogging’s more fun with a little help from your friends: join us in Blogging U. for Blogging 101: Zero to Hero this January, and give your blogging skills a boost.
Blogging U. courses combine expert advice with personalized help and a supportive community. Reach your own creative goals, improve your technical know-how, and make new friends!
Blogging 101 is our foundational, get-started course: three weeks of bite-size blogging assignments that take you from “Blog?” to “Blog!” January’s course runs from Monday, January 4 through Friday, January 22.
Here’s how it works:
- Every weekday, we’ll send you one new, bite-sized assignment to help you publish a post, customize your blog, or engage with the blogging community.
- You’ll write posts and work through the assignments on your blog, to develop and focus it.
- When you need a helping hand, you’ll have access to a private site, The Commons. There, you can connect with other participants, share your work, and get support from WordPress.com Editors and Happiness Engineers.
- You’ll walk away with a stronger focus for your blog, several published posts and a handful of drafts, a theme that reflects your personality, a small (but growing!) audience, a grasp of blogging etiquette — and a bunch of new friends.
Whether you’re just getting started or want to revive a dormant blog, we’ll help you build good blogging habits and blogger connections that will keep you going over the long haul. And of course, it’s completely free!

Will there be a blogging 102 for those who have taken 101 over the summer?

I took this earlier this year and learned a lot. Also started following new blogs, got some new followers of my own, and spruced up my blog a bit. I *think* I will take 201 “someday.” If you want to learn some tips for your blog, and blogging in general, I recommend 101. 🙂

This is great. I started my blog this summer, but so far all I’ve really done is reblog good posts that I find on my genre, and occasional other posts that I find interesting.
But I kno I need to do more than that, especially if I want an actual audience, which I do!
I hope the course will cover the basics like how
to get people to the site, how to tag, and create good material.

I love offers that come along like this! But schedule is already pretty busy, can one proceed at his/her own pace?
LikeLiked by 3 people
You can — assignments are sent via email, so you can tackle them whenever you wish (there are no new ones over the weekend though, to let people catch up). The only thing to keep in mind is that other course takers might be a few assignments ahead of you.

LikeLiked by 5 people
Absolutely! The assignments are in English, and it might take some effort finding other bloggers who can comment on your blog’s content (if you’re looking for that type of feedback), but that should stop you from participating and engaging in The Commons.

I have a (dormant) blog with WordPress: http://www.northforkmary.com. I have no idea what the email is that’s associated with the blog. I pretty much don’t know how to do anything. I don’t even know what a “plugin” is. I really need help & I am looking forward to the course.

You’ll find this course to be very helpful! I took it before and may take it again simply because I skimmed over some lessons — the timing wasn’t right for me to try a particular aspect, perhaps, or I was overwhelmed with some of it. However, it really got me pointed in the right direction for a successful blog (however you may define success).

If there are blog assignments given in the course, is there flexibility to tailor them to fit the overall theme of the blog? This course assumes that you already have a blog — where to blog is a decision you’d want to make before starting. You could also always start with a free WordPress.com blog, and move to a self-hosted blog later if you decide that’s the better option for you.
