New Themes: Resonar and Scrawl
Longform writers, rejoice! Resonar and Scrawl were made just for you.
Happy Theme Thursday, all! Today I’m pleased to present two new free themes designed especially for longform writing.
Resonar
Designed by yours truly, Resonar is an elegant blog theme with full-screen Featured Images. It’s perfect for blogs about fashion, food, or design, and the layout works especially well for longform features with large images. The combination of gorgeous images and beautiful typography creates posts that make an immediate visual impact.
Read more about Resonar on the Theme Showcase, or activate it on your site from Appearance → Themes.
Scrawl
Scrawl, designed by Caroline Moore, is a clean, responsive theme with bold featured images, fancy image captions and pull quotes, and plenty of space for your content to shine. Post details fade in when you hover over them, so readers can focus entirely on your beautiful content when not navigating your site. A slide-out sidebar provides ready access to secondary content, including Social Links, Custom Menus, and Widgets.

Thank you. I like Scrawl very much. While live previewing this new theme I noticed a small issue – texts in archive and category widgets, when set to drop down menu are invisible.

A couple of great themes.
One question, however, why the name resonar ?

I love Resonar’s features including the lovely Overhanging Images and Pull Quotes. I even love the fonts. I’m going to try it out on my test blog this weekend. Well, maybe I’ll try it out sooner because I’m excited. It’s so cool and it’s free too. Thank you Takashi Irie so much for creating this gorgeous theme.

Very beautiful. But I want more themes with visible sidebars, like Twenty Fifteen.

Resonar looks beautiful – might have to think about switching to this.

As a journalist who has been an advocate of long-form writing for years now, it’s nice to see developers working with us in mind. Both of these themes are attractive. I hope folks put them to good use.

I don’t have content to write on the blogs I want with these fabulous themes lately! Typography rules! Go Zeldman!

Love Scrawl. Hate the hyphenation in the headlines.

I love Resonar. I don’t do a lot of longform writing, but it’s great for personal blogs. I’m using the theme right now and prefer the super clean, minimalist (and asymmetrical) look with no featured images.

Just saw scrawl in the themes area and came here looking for the announcement post. Currently testing it out on my test blog and feel I might finally venture away from Celsius. Fixed position toggle buttons just click me the right way, thanks Caroline.
The menu button’s size is nice too.
Curious, is it possible to change the color of the blog title?
Also i don’t have an eye catching logo yet. Any advice or post links on creating one?

Resonar looks good, scrawl might not be what I am looking for though.

Is this the parent theme for the Satellite theme? I can’t install the satellite theme on my self-hosted site because it’s missing the “scrawl parent theme”. I already installed Scrawl yet the issue remains.
