Bring Twitter to Your Blog
Have you become addicted to telling the world what you’re up to in 140 characters or less? If so, we’ve launched a feature that you’ll love: a Twitter widget for your sidebar.
Now you can quickly and easily keep your readers connected to your updates on Twitter, and make your blog the home of even more of your content. We use it on the WordPress news blog to let you know what’s going on with our @wordpressdotcom account.
All the links that you post to Twitter remain clickable in the widget, and your @ replies link to user profiles, like when you say, “Hey @photomatt!”. Hashtags link to Twitter Search for that term, like #wordpress. Timestamps link to the individual update, and the heading of the widget links back to your profile.
To add the Twitter widget to your WordPress.com blog, just head to Appearance > Widgets in your dashboard. The brand new Twitter widget option is there waiting patiently for you.
Click “Add” to add it to your sidebar, and then click “Edit” to set your Twitter username and choose how many updates you’d like to display. No passwords needed.
Have more than one account on Twitter? No problem. You can add as many as you like! Just add another widget as you did before.
Update: We’ve released the Wickett Twitter Widget plugin for WordPress.org users.
Hmmm, i think i will make a twitter account now..

Not seeing it on my toolbar…is this the same problem that other people have been having with the 15 minutes thing or is it something else entirely? (And yes, I did add it to my widgets and saved ;))

I see that you added the Twitter widget on one of your blogs, but you didn’t change the options to put in your username yet. See https://wordpress.com/support/widgets/twitter-widget/

This is great news …
– except that it doesn´t work on by blog. Did exactly as described, but the widget keeps sayning “No response from Twitter”?

You have your Twitter account set to protected updates, which will not work.

In the theme “Digg 3 Column” all the headlines of the widgets are in green. Just the Twitter widget appears in blue – this seems to be an unintended error. Could you fix this?
LikeLike
This is because the title is linked in this widget. The other widgets don’t have a link in the title.

that’s already a very useful widget, but would be perfect if one could chose to ignore @replies. there’s no point to present chatter with other twitter users on my blog, i’d prefer to show just my regular updates.

This is a very nice feature WordPress has provided for us people that do not always blog every moment, but however do microblog it, if you get my meaning.

Thanks, I like this. Sometime late yesterday or today, the tweets on my blog were gone and replaced with, “twitter not responding.” I was able to restore the tweets but would like to know if the bug was a twitter malfunction or something with WordPress. I’m new to twitter and have more confidence in WordPress…to be honest!

Hi there,
I realise that if I were to view my blog (without logging in), the twitter updates doesn’t seems to show and it states there “no response from twitter”.
But then when I log in to my account and view my blog, I can see 5 updates (which I set in the widget settings) from twitter without any problem.
Hope I can get this fixed. 😛
Thanks!

I’m able to see updates in the widget both logged in and logged out. Logged in and logged out users get different types of caching.

I added the widget about 6 to 8 hours ago and since them its been saying ‘No response from Twitter’..Yet when I click the widget header it takes me to my Profile Page on Twitter. SOS!

Your Twitter updates are protected. The widget will not work unless you change your Twitter account.

Does the Twitter widget work if your updates are “protected” on Twitter, i.e. not on the public timeline?
The reason I ask: it’s been 31 minutes since I changed by Twitter status but my blog’s new Twitter widget still reads “no response from Twitter.” Many thanks for this great addition! -Ilan

No, protected updates will not work with the Twitter widget.

when I go to appearances > widgets in my dashboard there are no widgets available there because it says that my them is not “widget-aware” and that the sidebars cannot be modified. When i changed the theme to one that was allegedly supposed to support widgets there were still no widgets available. All I want to do is add the twitter widget and it is seemingly impossible. so frustrated!
