Transferring old website to WordPress
-
I am not tech savvy and I am trying to figure out an efficient way to transfer my website from Cargo Collective to WordPress. It does not appear that I can download my website info off Cargo Collective as an XML file.
How else can I move my website from Cargo to WordPress? Please keep in mind I need the basics explained as, again, I am not tech savvy.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there and thanks for reaching out!
You’re right that Cargo Collective doesn’t offer an XML export option, which is what most platforms use for easy transfers. Unfortunately, Cargo Collective isn’t one of the platforms WordPress.com has a built-in import tool for (like we do for Squarespace, Wix, or Medium).
That said, you absolutely can still move your content over! Here are your options, from simplest to most hands-off:
Option 1: Copy and Paste (Simplest but site may not look exactly the same)
This is the most straightforward approach:- Open your Cargo site in one browser window
- Open your WordPress.com site editor in another window (go to wordpress.com/home and click “Write” or “Pages”)
- For each page on your Cargo site:
- Select and copy the text
- Create a new page or post on WordPress.com
- Paste the text in
- For your images:
- Right-click each image on your Cargo site and choose “Save Image As…” to save it to your computer
- In WordPress.com, go to Media → Add New and upload your saved images
- Insert them into your pages
Start with your most important pages first (Home, About, Contact) and work your way through the rest. This is a very manual method and may not get it to look exactly how you want but it’s still a means of moving your content.
Option 2: Use the “Converting HTML Site” guide (Needs some level of tech-savvy)- Follow: https://wordpress.com/support/import/converting-an-html-site-to-wordpress/
- Save Cargo pages as HTML files → use WordPress HTML import
Option 3: Hire a Professional
If your site has a lot of pages or complex layouts, you can hire a WordPress expert to handle the migration for you:

As there is no direct export method available for Cargo Colective sites, the options may not be as smooth as other platforms migrating to WordPress.com but I hope this information is helpful to you.
