“The site does not allow subscriptions”
-
Hello, I’m running into an error “The site does not allow subscriptions” when trying to add subscribers to my page. I can’t find a reason why subscribers would not be allowed – is this a bug that needs a reset? Thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The “The site does not allow subscriptions” error on your site is typically a privacy-related restriction rather than a system bug, often occurring because the site is set to Private or is still in “Coming Soon” mode. WordPress.com automatically disables the “Follow” and email subscription features in these states to prevent unauthorized access to content, so the first step is to navigate to Settings → General (or Reading) and ensure your Site Visibility is set to Public. Additionally, check Settings → Reading to verify that the “Follower Settings” are enabled, and ensure that any active VPNs or browser extensions are disabled, as these can sometimes block the subscription script from executing correctly.

Thank you for replying! Unfortunately, none of these options have worked – my site was already set to Public, I don’t see Follower Settings in Reading or in any of my menu options, and I’ve disabled extensions as well as tried adding subscribers from two different browsers and the Jetpack app – no luck.
