Removal of web page
-
hello, there is a web page which doesn’t belong to me but includes my picture and is out of date. I don’t give my consent and didn’t give my consent for this to be online for the rest of eternity at the time either. how can I have it removed?

To have an outdated image removed from a website you do not own, you should first attempt to contact the site owner directly via their contact page or an email address found through a WHOIS search. If the owner is unresponsive, you can report the unauthorized use to the website’s hosting company or use search engine tools to request that the content be removed from search results. Depending on your location, you may be protected by the Right to Erasure (GDPR) if the data is no longer necessary, or you can issue a DMCA Takedown Notice if you own the copyright to the photo. It is important to avoid paying any fees to third-party owners for removal, as this is often a tactic used for extortion.

Yes, you are protected by the UK’s version of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), which was incorporated into UK law following Brexit as the UK GDPR. Under this framework, you have the “Right to Erasure”—also commonly known as the “Right to be Forgotten”—which allows you to request the removal of personal data, such as your image, from a website. You can exercise this right if you have withdrawn the consent you previously gave or if the image is no longer necessary for the original purpose for which it was published. While there are exceptions for certain types of public interest or freedom of expression, most private websites must comply with a valid request from a UK resident to delete outdated personal information.

hello, I haven’t heard back from the web page owner probably because it’s a very old page linked to a university team which probably don’t use that platform anymore. Please can you respond to me and erase the image. Thanks

WordPress.com doesn’t intervene on a website just on demand of someone. You must report that site as described at https://wordpress.com/support/report-blogs/

It’s really frustrating when old content like that stays online, especially when it’s a photo you didn’t consent to. Since it’s a university team page, try reaching out to the university’s IT department or their Data Protection Officer directly. They usually have a specific process for GDPR requests and might be able to track down who actually has the login for that old site. That is often faster than waiting for a platform report to go through.
