Looking for the right theme
-
I’m trying to find an appropriate theme for my blog that can give me more of a NY TImes/Daily Beast look, which will allow contributors their own spaces — i.e. stickies that can be placed in various parts of the page under an individual author’s name — as well as photo galleries, particularly for our fashion/lifestyle contributor, sort of like the one for my portfolio on Carbonmade (http://pfc.carbonmade.com/projects/3021501), which you can just flick through and add comments to each picture. Also, is there one that allows you to control how often update notices get sent out to subscribers? We’d still like it to look similar to the Pilcrow theme we are currently using, but with a smaller header.
Thanks for any advice.

James,
The blog linked to your username id not a free blog from and being free hosted by wordpress.com. I also read what you expect in a theme and you aren’t going to find those features here. Have you read these entries?

http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/IMO you ought to be hiring a web host and getting software for self hosting from here > http://wordpress.org/looking
Themes for wordpress.ORG installs are found here > http://wordpress.org/showcase/
All support is provided here > http://wordpress.org/support/ -
If you are referring to remaining at wordpress.com then there is a Themes Showcase with feature filters and live demos found here. > http://theme.wordpress.com/

Thanks, Timethief. I have checked out wordpress.org and it seems a little complicated for me. We do have web hosting for our rather useless website http://www.purefilmcreative.com via godaddy. I would rather stay within the wordpress.com system for the time being even if it means paying for a theme that gives us more freedom. I heard that nytimes.com was based on wordpress, so I was hoping there might be something similar out there. I’ll look through the themes and try to find something suitable.

Okay them here we go:
Sticky posts not pages are stuck to the front page of the blog. They are placed at the very top. They cannot be scattered about. If you use more than one you will create an editing nightmare for yourself which is not to mention a distressing situation for readers who only come to read new content and who will have to scroll and scroll to find it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts
http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/The only themes we can use on free hosted blogs are found here and in the Themes Forum which I have already linked to. Appearance > Themes
Gallery instructions are here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/
There are VIP hosted blogs here and they are all in this PAID program. > http://vip.wordpress.com/ All of their themes are custom and copyright and you cannot use them. Nor can you use the themes on the front page of wordpress.com or on the official blog.
What can be done on muti-author free hosted blogs is found here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/03/06/multi-author-wordpress-com-blogs/
