Does WordPress care about content thieves?
-
There are WordPress users who help themselves to my content, like this user who copied my original post, the original artwork within it, and to add insult to injury, stripped out all the links in the text which referred back to other posts in my site.
Here’s my original post: https://littlebuddythecat.com/2026/02/18/amazing-cats-the-jaguarundi-is-adept-adaptable-and-mysterious/
Here’s the content thief’s stolen version of my post with all links to my site removed: https://fofuricespet.site/the-jaguarundi-is-adept-adaptable-and-mysterious-pain-in-the-bud/
Here is another content thief who stole the same post yesterday: https://usingpos.online/the-jaguarundi-is-adept-adaptable-and-mysterious-pain-in-the-bud/
I’m not happy about this. It’s hard enough to promote my site without people helping themselves to the content, the ad earnings are pitiful, and even though WordPress support claims it didn’t happen, I seem to be shadowbanned from discovery on the Reader since I’ve been stuck at the same number of subscribers for two years, which is about when traffic from the Reader almost entirely stopped.
Now I have people regularly taking my content. If my site wasn’t a labor of love, I would have shut it down a long time ago, but this is not cool at all.

You can try to make it more difficult for them, but at the end of the line: you really can’t prevent theft of content. Never forget the golden rule: everything you put on the internet, can and will misused one way or another.

Hi there, both those sites appear to be using Cloudflare’s services. You can report abuse by following this link https://www.cloudflare.com/trust-hub/reporting-abuse/

Hi @thebigbuddy,
I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re experiencing.
In this case, I also recommend reviewing this guide on how to help protect your content:
https://wordpress.com/support/prevent-content-theft/It’s important to keep in mind that since content published online is publicly accessible, there isn’t a way to fully guarantee complete protection. However, the guide includes helpful steps you can take to reduce the risk.
As justjennifer also mentioned, you may want to consider reporting the sites that are using your content without permission.
Please let us know if you have any questions or need any additional help. We’re here to support you.
