In the Northern Hemisphere, it’s back-to-school time. As people put away their beach blankets for the year, we often see a resurgence in blogging. Not quite feeling motivated to face your keyboard just yet? Here’s some inspiration from three diverse bloggers on why they maintain a blogging habit.
To get more comfortable with yourself
“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” — Henry David Thoreau
At mix it up with curves, style blogger Vivian sees fashion on a budget as an outlet for her creativity. In sharing the outfits she creates, she wants “to make getting dressed (and living life) feel good for all.” Blogging has helped her expand her comfort zone.
Taking the initial steps to start a blog was the hardest part. Although my close friends and family were on board, most people didnβt get the concept.
My experience has been that once you are woman over 35, thereβs an expectation that you disappear. You get lost in the role of wife, mother, or the one associated with your career. Sure, these roles are all important. However, they can slowly eclipse your individuality as a woman. My opinion is that we are all (men too) too interesting to be defined by one facet of our life.
Interestingly, by going out of my comfort zone to blog, Iβve become more comfortable with myself. I think taking pictures made me more aware of what works for me and what doesnβt. I donβt go buying clothes in hopes that I will βfit inβ to them after losing weight. I just get the size that works for me and take it from there. Let me tell you, life is so much easier when I get dressed in the morning as a result! Blogging also introduced me to a new community.
–Vivian
To inspire and motivate others
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
— Mahatma Karamchand Gandhi
Cristian Mihai writes serials, short stories, and novels, and has been blogging for six years at his self-titled site. Why does he continue to post every day? Not only because he’s fallen in love with the process of writing; he wants to make a difference for readers.
Every once in a while someone feels overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of posts that I write and they leave a comment asking why do I do this. Or how. Or they even get a bit angry at me for punching the keys so much.
Isnβt this the idea?
The dream is to write. To be able to write as much as possible. Also, the dream is to be able to inspire people and offer them the motivation they need to overcome certain obstacles, to feel as if they can conquer their circumstances and become who they want to be.
–Cristian Mihai
To create meaningful connections with others
βA dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.β — John Lennon
Blogger Lisa Lawrence writes about her life and adventures with her husband Richard at For the Love of Lawrence. In addition to chronicling her feelings and experiences as an introvert, she appreciates the connections she’s made with readers.
Plain and simply, I find it to be therapeutic.
On top of this factor, the blogging community is a big reason behind why I continue to blog and share my experiences. It is through reading others blog posts, hearing their stories and sharing their experiences that has given me the strength and comfort to be able to share my own.

Speaking from my own personal experience as someone that is new to blogging, I blog to release the ideas in my head. For a long time now, I had no idea on how to expand my work and creativity. Until I decided, that blogging was the next step to sorting out more of my creativity.

Wow! This is amazing.
I started blogging 10 months ago because I felt I was learning so much and not giving out.
So in the bid to inspire, motivate and share the things I’m learning, I started my blog.
And I’ve not regretted taking that step.
It’s been amazing.

Honestly, I’m not disciplined enough to finish a novel (who knows how many times I’ve tried now!) But with blogging, it keeps me writing. It gives me focus. And I sometimes have a lot to say.

I originally started blogging 2 1/2 years ago to help me make sense of a turbulent time of my life. But I continue for the pure joy of writing. I love the challenge of finding just the right words to express what I am thinking and feeling and when I am in the process of doing so, I can lose all sense of time and space. Maybe, most importantly, writing gives voice to my creative side which is frequently eclipsed by my more dominant practical/logical side. Writing makes me feel, well, like a writer which brings me incredible satisfaction and helps me see myself in a different way.

I started a blog because I have a lot of thoughts about things that are discussed in class, between my family members etc. and often my thoughts on the topics being discussed are in opposition to those around me ( many people feel this), so I want to find the people out there who agree with some of what I say and to discuss with them the issues of the everyday, art culture and equality. I want to be able express myself in a judgement and bullying free zone but I do want to be questioned and challenged by other people’s views and opinions as well. I want to write the things I want to read.

Writing is something Iβve always done. I wrote as a child to entertain my parents and grandparents. I later wrote for a couple of magazines as a sideline job. Now Iβve been blogging on my self titled site for ten years on and off. Itβs fun. I mainly write about photography and places.

I m currently unemployed after graduating college in May and the competition is fierce for new jobs. The pressure is overwhelming. Blogging allows me to relax and express myself and hopefully draw readers and followers, a gathering. I love to help and serve others and thought about how much it has meant to me all the encouraging articles I have read, that pushed me along not to give up, I want to give back and maybe plants some seeds for others on encouragement, coffee, cooking, faith and stories ; like around the kitchen table where the best stories are told.

blogging is like therapy to me… when I actually write it down, I see the words for what they are, not what my mind thinks they MEAN. When I realized this for myself I thought it only fair to share these little pearls of wisdom with everyone else. I am not a “writer” but try my best and slightly enjoy pushing myself out of my comfort zone. http://www.lifesabeacher.blog

Hmmmm, blogging is definitely something I’ve always wanted to learn to do because I think, I’ve always loved reading and writing and going to school and just to learn different things in life. Although I’m new to the blogging scene I’m very anxious to see what’s in store and what/who’s here for me to learn from.
