Setting up the Home Page Template

  1. Create a Page, preferably titled “Home.”
  2. Set the Home Page template.
  3. Navigate to Customize → Static Front Page within the Dashboard.
  4. Choose the option to display a static page for the Front page.
  5. Select your newly created “Home” page from the Front page drop down list.
  6. Click the blue Save button.

Homepage Featured Content Slider

  1. Add a Tag to the Posts you wish to display in the Slider, e.g. “featured.”
  2. Navigate to Customize → Featured Content
  3. Enter the name of the Tage.g. “featured.”
  4. Click the blue Save button at the bottom.

Once a Tag name has been saved, posts having this tag will appear in the featured content slider. You can specify an image to be displayed with each post by setting a featured image. The suggested size for featured images is 1800 pixels wide and 800 pixels high.

Note: To have a text excerpt appear in the slider post with the featured image mentioned above, type an excerpt in the Excerpt field.

 

Homepage Content Areas

  1. Navigate to Customize → Theme Options  Home Page Template
  2. Choose the pages you would like to appear on the homepage using “Featured Page Left,” “…Middle,” “…Right,” and “…Bottom.”
  3. Click the blue Save button at the bottom.

You can specify an image to be displayed in the background of each “Featured Page” post by setting a featured image for that post.

Note: You may notice in our theme demo of Restaurant and in the screen shot above, the “Featured Page Bottom” includes the page title “We use only fresh, local ingredients” as well a line below it “All Organic Vegetables…” That line below is pulled from the page Excerpt. See the note in the previous section for guidance on revealing the Excerpt field in the page editor.

Setting Up a Blog Page

Setting up a Blog Page is very similar to setting up a Home Page.

  1. Create a Page, preferably titled “Blog.
  2. Navigate to Customize → Static Front Page within the Dashboard.
  3. You should already have the option to display a static page under “Front Page Displays.”
  4. Select your newly created “Blog” page from the Posts page drop down list.
  5. Save the changes.

Note: The Profile Image and Information in the right sidebar can be added or changed by navigating to Customize and then clicking Theme.

Using the Slideshow Page Template

  1. Create a Page.
  2. Select the “Slideshow” template.
  3. Click Add Media, and then ‘Create Gallery’.
  4. Once your gallery has been created, click the Insert Gallery to the bottom right of the gallery creation screen.
  5. You may then drag and drop the images in the order you like.
  6. Close the Insert Media window and Publish or Update the page. When you view the page, the slideshow should now appear showing the photos from your gallery.

Three-Column Page Template

  • When creating a new page, choose the “Three Column” template.
  • Be sure to add Widgets to both Left Sidebar and Right Sidebar under Customize → Widgets. Both of those sidebars will appear on either side of the page.

Creating Recipes

Restaurant uses Portfolio Projects to display recipes.

  1. Create a new Portfolio Project for each recipe.
  2. Add a featured image and content to your recipes.
  3. To display all your Recipes on a page, create a new Page.
  4. Select “Portfolio” as the Page Template.

Setting up the Menu Page Template

Note: Some of these settings are in the WP Admin dashboard, which will look a little different from the rest of your menus. You can leave WP Admin at any time by clicking on My Site.

  1. Create a Page, preferably titled “Menu.”
  2. Select “Menu” as the Page Template.
  3. You can specify an image to be displayed in the background of the Menu page by setting a featured image for that page.
  4. Click the blue Save button.
  5. To add Menu posts to the page, click on My Site → Food Menus.
  6. Click Add One Item.
  7. Add a title, content, and price.
  8. You can specify an image to be displayed for each Menu post by setting a featured image for that post.
  9. Click the blue Save button.
  • You can add more than one menu item at a time by clicking on Add Many Items.
  • You can create labels for menu items by clicking Menu Item Labels.
  • You can create sections on your menu such as “salads” or “appetizers” by clicking Menu Sections.
