Blog Page Setup

Halves has a beautiful and balanced homepage with sections including a Featured Page, Featured Content, and Sidebar Widgets. Let’s see how we can set up these elements:

  1. Featured Page
  2. Featured Content From Your Blog
  3. Recent Posts
  4. Sidebar Widgets

Adding Your Featured Page

You can select any page to appear as your Featured Page; on the demo we feature the About Me page. An excerpt of the selected page will be displayed on the site’s homepage along with a featured image. Here’s what it will look like:

Halves Theme Featured Excerpt

To turn on this feature:

  1. Go to Customizer → Theme Options.
  2. Go to Select Featured Page and select the page you want to display as your Featured page.
  3. Click Save & Publish.

Adding Featured Content from Your Blog

You can feature up to four posts that will be given a special style and displayed above your latest posts.

  1. Go to Customizer → Featured Content.
  2. Add a tag name, such as “featured.”
  3. Click Save & Publish.
  4. Add the same tag to each post you want to feature.
  5. Add a featured image to each post (if you hadn’t added one when you published the post in question).

Displaying your Recent Posts

All your recent posts appear on the left, below the Featured Content section if it’s used.

Sidebar Widgets

The sidebar widget area displays any widgets you’ve added, to the right of your recent posts.

Halves includes one Primary Custom Menu, displayed in the header area beside your Site Title and Tagline.

Flexible Custom Header

Halves supports a Custom Header, which is displayed below the Site Title, Tagline, and menu area. We recommend an image that’s 1600 by 400 pixels.

  1. Go to Customizer → Header Image.
  2. Upload an image or select an existing one using the Add New Image button.
  3. Click Save & Publish.

The above screenshot depicts how the Header image will appear on your website.

Selecting Layouts

There are three layout choices for the blog page. You can opt to have a sidebar, no sidebar, or a grid of posts.

  1. Go to Customizer → Theme Settings.
  2. Select your preferred layout from the Layout for blog and archives pages section.
  3. Click Save & Publish.

Grid Page Template

The Grid Page template is a convenient way to display your services or other types of information in a grid layout.

  1. Create a new Page and give it the name of your choice.
  2. In the Page Attributes area of the editor, select the Grid Page template.
  3. Create new child pages for as many items as you’d like to feature. In the Parent Page area of each sub-page, select the name you’ve given to the page.
  4. Add a featured image to each child page to be displayed on the parent page grid.
