Expoundby Konstantin Kovshenin

Expound offers a fresh, clean magazine-styled look for any type of blog. With a responsive design that looks great on any device, its support of post formats and featured posts will help your content shine.

Setting Featured and Primary Posts

  1. Navigate to Appearance → Customize → Featured Content.
  2. Enter the name of a tag.
  3. Click the blue “Save” button at the bottom.

Your first five posts with the tag set above and a Featured Image will show up in the featured area, with the most recent being the primary featured post and the remaining four in columns beneath it, as shown in the demo.

If you haven’t assigned a Featured Content tag to any posts, Expound will display up to five sticky posts in the featured posts area. If you have neither sticky posts nor any posts tagged with a Featured Content tag, your newest five posts will be displayed in the featured posts area.

Adding a Featured Image

To make the most of Expound, we highly recommend adding Featured Images to your posts. To do this, open the editor of the post and locate the Featured Image module in the bottom right corner under Page Attributes. Click “Choose a Featured Image.” You will see an uploading screen identical to that used when inserting an image into a blog post. Follow the on-screen prompts to choose the image from your computer and upload it or choose from one of the images already in your Media Library.

Once the image has successfully been uploaded, you’ll see one or more images displayed as thumbnails. Select the one you want to use as a Featured Image. It will then appear outlined in blue with a checkmark.

Next, click the “Set Featured Image” button. Don’t forget to save your changes. Your Featured Image is now set! Read more about adding a Featured Image to your posts.

Custom Header & Background

With Expound, you can easily add your own Custom Header image under Appearance → Header or Background pattern by following these simple instructions: Appearance → Background.

The best custom header images are decorative background images. The image will be cropped for small viewports (not scaled down) to fit the available area fixed for height and width. This means header images that work best with this theme are abstract or decorative images.

Responsive Design

Expound was developed so that it adjusts itself depending on the device you are using. This makes your blog look good not only on laptops, but also other mobile devices such as an iPad or iPhone.

Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels)

  1. The main column width is 700 except in the full-width layout where it’s 960.
