Getting Started

After activating Debut, you can begin tailoring it from the Customizer, where you’ll find tools to add a logocustomize colorscreate menusset up the front page, and more.

Detailed instructions for working with Debut’s unique features are included below. If you run into any issues or have a question, you can find additional help by:

Homepage

The homepage, or front page, is typically the first page most visitors see when visiting your site. While it shows a list of your latest posts by default, Debut includes a few options that allow you to customize the layout and information displayed.

Read the documentation for setting up a static front page if you’d prefer not to have your blog on your homepage. You’ll also want to create a page for displaying your latest blog posts. Be sure to add the this page to your menu so your visitors can find it.

Hero Slider and Featured Posts Display

To display the hero slider at the top of the front page with a featured posts area below, the front page will need to use the Home Page page template. Once assigned, you’ll see new theme options for each section in the Customizer > Theme Options panel.

Setting the Hero Slide Image

Image Size: 940×350 (px)

The background image of each Hero slide uses the image set as the posts Featured Image. By setting a featured image, the image will be shown behind the content for the post displayed in the hero slider.

The featured post thumbnails shown in the theme demo display the featured image.

How to create an Album?

Debut comes with a custom audio player with playlist functionality built in. Adding audio is easy:

  1. Create/Edit a post and give it a title.
  2. Select the Audio post format.
  3. Upload one or more MP3 audio files to the Posts gallery (NOT via the Media menu).
  4. Set a featured image to be used for the Album artwork.

It’s important to note, when adding audio, you need to add/upload the audio to the Post itself, NOT via the Media menu. You should see all your audio files in the “Gallery” tab of the Media lightbox for a post.

When viewing the post, you will see a fully functional audio player. There are a few display and control options available for the audio player in Appearance > Theme Options > Audio Player (section).

NOTE: The Audio post format requires .mp3 type files to play. In order to upload .mp3 files, you must have the space upgrade.

Update Album & Track Info

By default, the theme uses pieces of the post content as the albums info. For example, the Album Title uses the Posts title and the Artist is set to use the Posts Author name. Below are ways to adjust these more to your liking.

After successfully uploading audio to a post:

  1. Open the media manager by clicking on the “Add Media” button.
  2. Choose the “Insert Media” option on the left side of the Media popup window.
  3. Choose the “Media Library” option in the main column.
  4. In the dropdown just below, choose “Uploaded to this post

You should now see all your audio uploaded to that post. You can drag and drop the audio in order. You can also select an audio file and update it’s info (right side).

  • Title: Track Title
  • Caption: Artist Name
  • Description: Album Name

Widgets

Debut has six widget areas, each of which are described below.

Multiple Post Pages

Widgets in this widget area will display on pages with multiple posts displaying. Typically, these types of pages are archive pages such as the Posts page, category or tag archives, or search results page. View example in theme demo →

Single Post Pages

Widgets in this widget area will display on single Post pages only. This allows for more control on what content shows on single Post pages. If there are not any widgets in this sidebar area, the post will show full width. View example in theme demo →

Page Pages

Widgets in this widget area will display on regular Pages. This allows for more control on what content shows on standard Pages. View example in theme demo →

Footer Columns 1, 2, and 3

The footer widget area is made up of three widget areas to form three columns. Each widget area will display the widgets vertically for that widget’s column. If no widgets are added to any of these widget areas, the footer area will not display.
