Chronicle uses WordPress integrated Featured Content to select the 4 posts that display underneath the slider. This involves choosing a post tag that signifies that your posts are special. When this tag is used, the posts will be displayed at the top of the homepage – separate to the regular blog posts. You can set the featured tag in Appearance → Customize → Featured Content.
To setup Featured Content do the following:
- Go to Appearance → Customize → Featured Content.
- Enter a tag name for the featured posts – make sure it’s unique and isn’t used anywhere else
- Edit the posts that you want to display in the slider and give them the featured tag you have just selected.
You should use the same tag for every post that you want to display. If you tag more than 4 posts then the most recent 4 will be displayed.
A giant slider displays prominently on the homepage. This slider is uses posts with featured images selected from the slider category. The slider category is specified in the Theme section of the Customizer.
To change this setting:
- Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme.
- Select the category you want to display from the Homepage Slider Category dropdown box.
- Once you’re happy hit save.
The featured categories display in the 3rd column on the homepage. The categories can be selected in the Customizer in the ‘Theme’ panel.
Using the Customizer you can add new categories to the list, remove categories from the list, and reorder the categories already in the list.
The posts displayed in the Featured Categories column must have a Featured Image included. Posts without a featured image are ignored.
Posts will only display once in the Featured Category column. If a post is in more than one category then it will be displayed in the first category, and ignored in the additional categories. This will give you a greater variety of content on your page.
Note that some categories may not display. This will be because either:
- There are no posts in the category with Featured Images
- All the posts from the selected category have already been displayed elsewhere in the Featured Category column.
Archive Post Layout
Chronicle lets you select the archive post layout from a selection of three different possibilities. This setting is changed in the Customizer as shown in the image below.

Chronicle has three widget areas. Information on the administration of widget areas can be found here.
All widget areas will hide if there are no widgets to display. The remaining content will resize to fill the empty space.
The footer sidebar is on all pages. The right-hand sidebar is on all pages except the full-width page template. The left-hand sidebar is displayed on the homepage, blog posts, and regular pages.
Two randomly chosen testimonials appear on the front page so that every testimonial has an equal chance to be seen. All testimonials are displayed in a testimonial archive page. Once you have published a testimonial, you can use the Customizer to edit the page title, add an intro text, and add a featured image.
