Once you’ve activated Alto, here are some of the easy custom touches you can add to make the theme’s layout and design truly yours.
Alto gives you the ability to display a custom header with a graphic, title, and site description.
From your site’s Dashboard, select Appearance → Customize. Once there, select the Header pane and upload an image. Alto will display your header either by itself, or alongside the title and description for your site.
If you’d like to display the logo by itself, click on the Site Title panel in the Customizer and make sure that the Display Header Text box is unchecked.
Alternative Single-Post Layouts
Alto allows you to change the style of your single-post layout. To choose a different layout, head to the Customizer.
There, select the Single Post Style panel. Alto supports three styles: the default style, Alternative Style 1, and Alternative Style 2. To set one of the alternative styles, select the option from the drop-down menu.
Once you’ve chosen the single post style that looks best for your site, click the Save button on the bottom of the Customizer and you’re good to go.
Social Media Links
Alto lets you easily display links to your favorite social networks in the right-hand side of the theme’s footer. To add your social media profiles, go to the Dashboard and head to Appearance → Menus.
Locate the option at the top to Create a New Menu. Next, set the Menu Name to Social. To add your profiles, select Links from the menu on the left. For each profile you’d like to add, set the URL field to the address of your profile. Don’t forget the http:// at the beginning!
Next, make sure to set the link text – this doesn’t display on the theme but helps visually impaired visitors identify the link. Set this to the name of the social network you’ve just added.
Currently, Alto offers support for the following social platforms: Bandcamp, Behance, Del.ico.us, DeviantArt, Digg, Dribbble, Etsy, Facebook, Flickr, Foursquare, Github, Instagram, Last.fm, LinkedIn, Pinboard, Pinterest, Rdio, Skype, Soundcloud, Spotify, StumbleUpon, Svpply, Twitter, YouTube, Google Plus (+), MySpace, and Vimeo.
Once you’ve added your links, under the Menu Settings section, make sure to check the Social box next to the Theme Locations option. Finally, click the Save Menu button and your social links will be added to your theme.
