A Week at the Cannes Film Festival Commentary by @CaptainPaulWatson It was a very busy week for Sea Shepherd in Cannes. I’ve had a few people critically asking just what was I thinking by going to Cannes. What does the Cannes Film Festival have to do with conservation and protecting life in the ocean, they asked. Well as it turns out – a great deal. First Sea Shepherd France organized a showing of the important new film Cowspiracy on May 15th. The next day on May 16th, Sea Shepherd France presented Blackfish to an audience of over 1,000 at the Palais des Congrès of Mandelieu. @seashepherdfrance President Lamya Essemlali and I gave talks at both the showings and it was an opportunity to address the captivity of Orcas in the nearby Marineland in Antibes, France. I had the great opportunity to meet Donald Ranvaud. @yana_rusinovich and I and @OmarTodd had dinner with him and he invited me to speak at a World Bank presentation the next day to talk about climate change. Donald was Executive Producer of The Constant Gardner and Co-producer of City of God. He is also the Ambassador for Latin American cinema. The film festival also presented opportunities to meet people in the film industry interested in producing environment themed documentaries and movies. And I was given the opportunity to be interviewed by the Hollywood Reporter on the importance of the movie industry to focus on environmental issues. That interview is attached to this report. Yana and I also attended the Red Carpet Premiere of The Lobster and we had the opportunity to attend a couple of dinners and parties where we were able to speak to quite a few people on issues of ocean conservation and climate change. http://ift.tt/1FtIyIw to read more #Cannes2015 #Cannes #CannesFilmFestival via @HollyWoodReporter by seashepherd
