Page layouts are pre-designed pages with placeholder content that you can replace with your own text or images. This guide will show you how to make use of page layouts to easily publish beautifully designed pages on your website.
Page layouts are pre-designed pages with placeholder content you can replace with your own text or images.
To get started, go to My Site, Pages, and select Add New to create a new page.
Then you can browse the entire collection of page layouts. They’re sorted by categories to make it easier to find just the layout you’re looking for.
There are about pages, blogs, home pages, photo galleries, service description pages, contact pages, coming soon or landing pages, image layouts, and even entire portfolios.
Keep in mind you don’t have to use a page layout for its intended purpose. So if you like a particular design, you can repurpose the content areas, replacing them with your own.
Once you’ve selected a page layout, just click to add it to your page. Then click any block to edit the content and replace it with your own.
And, of course, you can also add or remove any blocks you like to create just the layout you want.

To view the collection of page layouts you can use on your site, follow these steps:
- From your dashboard, click on Pages.
- Click on “Add new page“.
- A window will appear for you to browse through the different categories of layouts, such as About, Gallery, Services, Newsletter, Blog, Store, and more.
- If the window does not appear, go to Plugins → Installed Plugins and make sure the WordPress.com Editing Toolkit plugin is active on your site.
- Once you find a layout that you like, click it once to apply it to your new page.
Page Layout categories include:
- About pages
- Blog pages
- Newsletter pages
- Gallery pages
- Services pages
- Contact pages
You don’t have to use a category for its intended purpose. For example, if you like an About page’s layout, you can repurpose the content areas with your own content as a Home page, a Services page, or any other type of page.
Once you’ve selected a Page Layout, you can replace the example content with your own.
Click on any text to edit it. Click on any Image block and click Replace to swap the image for your own.
If you want to quickly erase all the blocks from the page, you can use some handy keyboard shortcuts. Press CTRL + A on Windows or Command-A on Mac. Then, press it again. Finally, press the delete key on your keyboard.
