Recent Posts Widget

Here’s an example of what the Recent Posts Widget looks like on a live site:

You can add the widget by:

  1. Going to My Sites → Design → Customize → Widgets.
  2. Select a widget area
  3. Click Add Items.
  4. Search for “Recent Posts Widget” and click on it to add it to your widget area.

You’ll then see the widget, which looks like this:

  • Title: Sets the title that will display above the recent posts in the sidebar. (e.g., Latest Posts, What’s New)
  • Number of Posts: Limits the number of posts to display. (If you have fewer posts than the limit, that number of posts will show.)
  • Display post date: Shows or hides the published date of the post.

Widget visibility allows you to choose when to show or hide the entire widget for specific pages on your site.

To change widget visibility:

1. Select the Visibility button

2. Give the widget a condition. For example, you can select the widget to “Hide” on the page called “About,” like in this example:

This will hide the widget on the About page so it won’t be visible.

3. You can click the plus icon to add more parameters.

4. If you select Match all conditions, it will make all conditions you may have entered must be met before showing or hiding the widget.

Display Posts Shortcode Alternative

If you only want to display posts from a certain category or with a specific tag, consider using a Text widget and use the Display Posts Shortcode to automatically show only a certain number of posts of a specific category, for example: [display-posts category="travel" posts_per_page="5"]

Here’s what the above widget would look like:
