The Archives Widget organizes your previously published posts by month. This can be handy for readers who want to browse your older content.

Here’s what the Archives widget looks like when it’s activated on a blog sidebar:

Add Archives Widget

To add the widget to your site:

  1. Go to My Sites → Appearance → Widgets.
  2. Click on the location you’d like to place the widget on your site (either a footer or sidebar location).
  3. Click on the Add a Widget button.
  4. Next, type “Archives” into the search bar and click on the Archives widget to add it to your site:

Configure Archives Widget

Title — Customize the title that displays above the widget in your sidebar. (For example, Archives, Old News.)

Display as a dropdown Check this box to display the months on a single line, as a drop-down menu, rather than as a list. This is handy if you want to save space or have a lot of blog posts.

Show post counts – If this box is checked, the total number of posts published during that month will be displayed next to the link.
