Third Party Applications

WordPress.com allows you to connect with third-party applications that extend your WordPress.com site in new and cool ways.

This is done in a secure fashion so you can revoke and manage access to your account at any time and third-party sites will not need your password.

Connect Application

The steps below are for sites that do not have any plugins installed. If your site has plugins installed please skip to these instructions.

To securely connect to WordPress.com:

  1. On the website or application that you want to connect to, find a button or link asking you to connect to WordPress.com.
  2. Click on the Connect link, which will bring you to WordPress.com. You will be asked to login. You can verify you are are on WordPress.com and secure by checking that the URL starts with https://public-api.wordpress.com.
  3. Once you’re logged in, approve the application by clicking “Authorize.” If you have multiple blogs you can select which blog you would like to grant access to.
  4. You’re now connected!

View Connected Applications

  1. To view details of your connected applications or revoke access, click on your Gravatar in the upper right.

  2. Select the Security option in your settings.
  3. Click on the Connected Applications option at the top of the page.
  4. On this page, you’ll see all of your connected applications.

Revoke Application Access

  1. Access the list of verified applications by clicking on your Gravatar in the upper right.

  2. Select the Security option in your settings.
  3. Click the Connected Apps option at the bottom of the page.
  4. Revoke access by clicking the Disconnect button to the right of the application.

Important Security Message

Some applications may still ask you for your username or password. You should only provide these details to services that you can trust such as mobile/desktop applications like WordPress for iOS.  Never provide your username and password to third-party sites claiming to get you followers and readers quickly or that you don’t recognize or can’t verify.

Sites with Plugins Installed

  1. Go to the Profile page for your plugin enabled site by adding wp-admin/profile.php to the end of your website’s address (for example, yourgroovysite.com/wp-admin/profile.php
  2. Scroll down to Application Passwords

  1. Provide a descriptive name for the new application you’ll be connecting. Use something that you’ll remember. Then, click Add New Application Password. A new password will be generated for you. Make sure to take note of the password; it will not be displayed on the screen in the future.

Revoke Application Access on Plugin Enabled Sites

  1. Go to the Profile page for your plugin enabled site by adding wp-admin/profile.php to the end of your website’s address (for example, yourgroovysite.com/wp-admin/profile.php
  2. Scroll down to Application Passwords
  3. Click the Revoke button next to the application you want to remove access for, or click Revoke all application passwords to remove access to all applications.
