You can add emojis — small digital images or icons used to express an idea or emotion — to your WordPress.com pages and posts.
For best performance, we use the system emoji where available. When the viewer’s device does not support the latest emoji, WordPress.com uses Twemoji, the open source emoji library maintained by former Twitter (X) developers.
On a computer, you can use the built-in emoji keyboard of your operating system.
Mac users (Yosemite OS and above) can insert an emoji by tapping Command + Control + Space while in the editor. You should see an emoji selector as shown in the image on the right.
Windows users on version 8 or newer have a special touch keyboard with emoji support. On the keyboard, press and hold the Windows button and either the period (.) or semicolon (;) until you see the emoji picker appear.
Windows users on version 7 and below can copy/paste emoji from a service like GetEmoji.com.
You can insert emojis in your pages and posts on a smartphone or tablet using our Jetpack apps.
WordPress.com sites can also convert many emoticons to emojis. On the WordPress.com plugin-enabled plans, emoticons are converted to emoji automatically. For other plans, you can enable this using the steps described here.
These instructions are referring to the WP-Admin interface. To view this interface, click the View tab in the upper right corner and select Classic view.
To convert emoticons into graphic emoji, go to My Site(s) → Settings → Writing in your WP Admin dashboard. Check the box next to Convert emoticons like :-) and :-P to graphics on display.
