    Hi there,

I’ve taken the time to look into your website and noticed that it’s actually using the WordPress.org software and is hosted by a different provider.

WordPress.org is the same foundational software we use here at WordPress.com, but it’s set up a little differently. Because of this, the specific help you may need can be different. To get the most appropriate help for your issue, I’d recommend posting your question in the official WordPress.org support forums, which you can find here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/.

That said, I would also like to mention an alternative for you. You can migrate your website to WordPress.com. We are a managed-hosting platform, which means we take care of all the maintenance and security tasks so that you can focus on creating content for your website. We also offer dedicated WordPress support through both email and live chat to ensure your questions or issues are handled promptly and efficiently.

If this sounds like something that could interest you, we’ve built an easy-to-use tool specifically for migrating WordPress sites from other platforms to WordPress.com. You can learn more about how to use this tool here: https://wordpress.com/support/import-using-move-to-wordpress-com/

You can also take a look at our various plans and what they offer on this page: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

If you have any other questions or if there’s anything else you’d like to discuss, don’t hesitate to let me know.

    Hello Fstat,

    Thanks for the response.

We actually figured what was happening. It was a major hack that was enabled by a malware. And the registration portion of wordpress. We have deactivated registering at all and cleaned the malware. The misleading thing is the editing of the /wp-admin/login.php file. That file was completely cleared of all its content and the text “Please modify the administrator login password” was the only content of wp-login.php.

So, you may be thinking it’s actually a php execution that is giving you the text output “Please modify the administrator login password” when you try to log in.
When you do a google search for this error, you will not find anything related as the only answers you’ll be getting will be the step-by-step process to change the admin password of WordPress. Even if you change the password via phpmyadmin, it will still print out the same text.

The solution will be to replace the affected worpress files with an older backup or the original file. I noticed the /wp-admin/edit.php was also emptied out by the hack.

In essence, i will advise persons to ensure they have the 6$/month Imunify AV+ installed on the main server to clean any new malware that may be injected or uploaded.

    Hi there,

Glad to hear you were able to get the site functioning again. It’s worth noting that by moving to our fully managed hosting, your site would enjoy our best-in-class security scanning, brute force account protection, automatic updates to core software to close security loopholes immediately. This is something you can avoid in the future, and protect your clients and any visitors that use the site. You can learn more here: https://wordpress.com/hosting/

Two things worth pointing out that are super-helpful in situations like this:

    • We offer daily incremental backups of all changes you make to your site. In the event that you have an issue of any kind with your site, the fastest way to recover is to rewind your site to the last good backup we have of your site. You can access backups anytime using our simple and direct interface: https://wordpress.com/support/restore/
    • We offer in-house support that is specific to WordPress, so if you have any issues at all with your site you can reach us 24/7 (live chat is an option in most cases) for the fastest help possible.

If you are interested in moving we can walk you through a seamless migration using our free plugin. You can follow the steps in our guide here:
