WordPress install Error

  • So for a school homework which involves the following steps:

    – Open an Account on AlterVista
    – Connect it to Filezilla
    – Download WordPress folder and put it in Filezilla
    – Going to the Wp-Admin installation and connect WordPress to AlterVista

i find myself stuck at the last one, i insert everything i need, Database Name, Username, Password and i leave the Host to “localhost” but it gives me the following error:

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can not contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

  • That would be for a self-hosted WordPress.org site, which we really can’t help with here.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
