WordPress Desktop App launches "write" in browser

  • Hey there,

I recently updated desktop app to v6.2 from v6.0 and since then, whenever I click “Write” or to see a draft, it launches on my browser instead. Is this intended?

  • Just tried CTRL + N for a new post and end up with HTTP 310 error code.

  • Hi there,

Are you using the app on Windows or MacOS, and what is your OS version?

You’re working on your Jetpack-connected site, http://gameaud.io/, correct?

Are you using the classic editor plugin on that site, or do you use the default block editor to create posts?

  • Hey there Kokkieh,

    I’m on Windows 10 (v2004)
    I’m working on http://gameaud.io/, correct
    I’m using Gutenberg block editor

So this was not the expected behavior then?

  • No, this shouldn’t be happening. There was an issue related in a previous version of the app where this happened when using the Block Editor but it has been fixed in the newer versions.
I wonder if this might be the same issue again. Could you confirm if switching to the Classic Editor helps?

  • Nope, that didn’t helped.

    – Installed Classic Editor Plugin
    – Disabled Gutenberg
    – Checked the setting under “Writing”
    – Restarted the App
    – Switched default browser to see if it’s Firefox is catching the link (which isn’t)

Still all “Write” links opens in browser.

  • Hi there,

Please perform a clean install of the app and see if the issue is resolved.

    1. Uninstall the WordPress.com app by using a program like Revo Uninstaller (Windows) or AppCleaner (macOS). Those programs will completely uninstall the app and delete any leftover files.

    2. Go to your Security page on your WordPress.com account and under the Connected Apps tab disconnect the WordPress.com Desktop App. Here’s a direct link to that page:

    https://wordpress.com/me/security/connected-applications

    3. Install the WordPress.com app again and re-connect your site or account.

  • I did all step by step. Nothing changed, still the same. Is there a debug mode or a log that I could send to you?

  • I want to say you can send that through help in the app. Tap your profile icon and reach out there.

I have tested this with a few sites on my end. For Jetpack-connected sites, SSO needs to be enabled or it will redirect to a browser. Do you recall seeing a prompt along those lines? I can see SSO is on with that site, but I’m wondering if you saw that prompt at any point and if the wrong setting got stored somehow.
