WordPress data center locations.

Hello, I am working with my legal department for a site that’s hosted on WordPress and they need to know WordPress’ data center locations. Anybody have that info or know where I can find that info? I’ve been Google-ing like crazy and nothing has come up.

It looks like it would be a long list.

WordPress.com runs on thousands of servers located in several separate data centers in different parts of the US and around the world.

Thanks for sending that over. All they require is the country location.

Our servers are located all over the world, your content is essentially mirrored and served from the datacenter closest to the viewer.

Thanks for letting me know, Mac. Do you know the exact countries? We’re crafting our Privacy Policy and in the legal documentation they are requiring the specific countries where they’re located. We had to do the same for Marketo and Discourse (part of our site), but with them they had the specific countries where their data centers are as public information.

Got it. I don’t have a compiled list right now, but here’s a map visualizing what we use for WordPress.com:

And here’s a map of the servers on our VIP platform, which may be a better fit for you.

If you view source for the page, you can see a list of countries with those servers. Does that help? I just worry about what happens if / when we add another location.

Thanks for sending over those links. That would help, what do I look for in the page source code to see those list of countries? I’m not a coder. I know how to access the page source code (working on a Mac and I just did right-click –> view page source)

As far as for what the future holds, we can cross that bridge when we get to it :)

I think you will find it easier to extract the country info you need from the publicly available list here: https://www.peeringdb.com/net/6460

However, as @supernovia mentions we are adding and removing data centers on a fairly regular basis as our service needs change, so you will need to account for that. Possibly I would recommend writing a more broadly accepted privacy policy that is not so country-specific if that is an option.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

@amonty35 – what’s the URL of the site you’re working on?

@amonty35 I see under your account that at one time you had the site proeliumapparel.com connected to WordPress.com via Jetpack, but that seems to no longer be the case.

Because that site is hosted at Bluehost, it does not use our data centers, so you may wish to consult with your host directly as well, to confirm the data centers they are using. We are not involved in storing data for that site. https://gwhois.org/proeliumapparel.com+dns

    Hope this helps!

Hello @rfaile313 skycrafters.io is the site I am referring to.

@jerrysarcastic yes, that site used to be on WP but that is not the one I am referring to. Thank you for sending over that link though!

Your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with GoDaddy, so knowing our server locations won’t help you much with that.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

But, the folks you’ll really need to speak to about this are at GoDaddy: https://www.godaddy.com/help

Wow, had no idea! Thanks for clearing that up, will reach out to them.
