widget to block pinterest
-
i am interested to know if it is possible to block pinterest pins on a WP.com blog. I see the ap created for the WP.org blogs as well as the code pinterest has created to place in the header of a website but would like something similar for my WP.com blog. does this exist or is it a possibility for the future? thanks-
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No it does not exist. It’s not possible for us to use the required code to block Pinterest pinning on free hosted WordPress.com blogs, as we cannot access and edit our metadata and the code must be inserted into the header. I’ll flag this thread so it gets moved to the Ideas Forum.

We had another thread on this yesterday and I know several of my readers want this ability too.

i’m just trying to limit my exposure to hacks and still share my work as i have been. i know it’s not the ultimate solution or anything but appreciate your time-thanks.
-
I hope a widget is created for this. I know a few people who are thinking of stopping sharing their work online because of Pinterest.

What’s required is not a widget. The code “This site doesn’t allow pinning to Pinterest. Please contact the owner with any questions. Thanks for visiting!” works much the same way robots.txt does in keeping search engine spiders from crawling your site. There are many WordPress.com bloggers primarily but not exclusively artists and photographers who want this ability.

I add my voice to those wishing to have a widget to block Pinterest or the ability to add the required meta tag.

This is an enlightening article about the legal ramifications of using Pinterest.
I also would appreciate a way to block Pinterest.
-
I would also like to urge WordPress.com to find a way of blocking Pinterest image theft.

this is an extremely important copyright issue! it is just plain stealing to pin, to reblog, or post to tumblr without the copyright holder’s explicit permission. the internet is <i>not really</i> public domain. i really urge wordpress to find a way for even the free users to have easy access to this blocking feature. i know i don’t post nearly as much as i used to for this very reason.
thank you.

Any updates on this ability? Is WordPress perhaps aligned with the owners of Pinterest? Could they give us some indication if this is in the pipeline??
Thanks -
@ raincoaster
Have you heard of reblogging, or Tumblr?
LOL
I’d like to block pinterest as much as I’d like to block reblogging feature.

I’d like to block pinterest as much as I’d like to block reblogging feature.
I with you on both of those too, alexsaja.

+1 for finding a way to block Pinterest on WP.com sites. Not only does Pinterest claim to own your images, but it also strips out all metadata from the images so they can claim not to be aware that an image is copyrighted.

@yarngoddess-In my opinion, not likely. Apparently reblogging, whether on WordPress.com, Pinterest, Tumblr or elsewhere, is the new black.
Some of us users argued vehemently against reblogging when it was introduced on WordPress.com. It’s still here thanks to the fact that when you signed up for the service you gave WordPress.com the right to redistribute your content, “solely for the purpose of displaying, distributing and promoting your blog.” Take a good look at Para 2.
