user name no longer works

My user name, Lindsay, still works OK on my blog. But when I try to log into WordPress.com, I get an error message that my password is wrong. It isn’t. But I asked to reset the password just in case. It turns out that WordPress thinks my user name is akismet-413fab967be3a4e3c4cfed11732679df. Good heavens!!! I promise I never set that as my user name! The numbers don’t even match any on my akismet key. My profile page still shows Lindsay as my user name – and it still doesn’t work.
Can anyone help? Or is my site being taken over by the Borg??

The URL is StarTrekMagic.com. But my user name and password work fine there. It’s just on the wordPress.com site. Or when I try to post a reply to someone else’s wordpress blog.

StarTrekMagic.com is a self-hosted wordpress installation at bluehost which means it is totally separate from wordpress.COM. There is no connection between your self-hosted site at bluehost and the wordpress.COM site. The username here and the username at your self-hosted wordpress site will typically be different (unless you happen to set them as the same.

It doesn’t look like you have an actual WordPress.com account, but would you please email us via support@wordpress.com and we’ll try to sort this out.

I thought that might be the case so tried to register at WordPress. But it won’t let me register because it says my email address is already in use. And it cycles me back to log in. :-(
