Trying to embed map but it only posts a link

  • I have been trying for days to post links to maps that have tracks from GPS. What happens every time is that I get the embedding code that starts with iframe and then it converts it to something else but in the end it only posts a link to the map. I need the maps to appear on my website. Can someone help? I follow all the tutorials that I’ve found word for word but it will never actually put the map on my site (only a link). I’m using Google Chrome but have also tried Internet Explorer and Micrsoft Edge but that never makes a difference. I’ve completely burned out now. I’ve found several people in other postings in the past who seem to have a similar problem but I never see any resolutions to it. Please help!
My site is https://mwexplorer.wordpress.com Thank you!

  • Hi there,

Can you please provide a link to the post or page on your site where you’re trying to add the map?

Also please post the embed code you’re trying to use here – use the “code” button above the text box before and after pasting the embed code to make sure none of it gets stripped out.

  • I have figured out that I can get a basic google map onto my site but I’m trying to embed a map from the Gaia GPS app and also from Garmin Connect and in both cases it only posts a link. Here’s the code I’m getting from Gaia GPS:

    <iframe src=’https://www.gaiagps.com/public/2IqZoL0SRxEbtcaMTVch5zwV?embed=True’ style=’border:none; overflow-y: hidden; background-color:white; min-width: 320px; max-width:420px; width:100%; height: 420px;’ scrolling=’no’ seamless=’seamless’></iframe>

Here’s the short code that it shortens to:

    https://www.gaiagps.com/datasummary/track/d5098b32627bcbcdc89e641f8aef0e1d/?embed=True

Here’s the link to the post:

Just to recap, you can see the google map on there and I followed the same exact process from the Gaia GPS app. I clicked on my map to share it, chose the embed map option, copied the code, pasted into the HTML editor, updated the page but there is only a link to the map. It does the same thing when I try to embed a map from Garmin Connect. Any ideas?? I keep trying over and over but can’t get it to work. I must be missing something.

  • We support embeds from Google Maps specifically, not for all embeddable maps. For an embed from a particular service to work they need to be specifically whitelisted, in addition to meeting certain requirements outlined in our developer documentation. We do not support embeds from Gaia GPS, so their embed code will not work here and won’t be automatically converted into a shortcode.

As a workaround I’d suggest you instead take a screen shot of the Gaia GPS map and upload that to your post as a regular image. Then you can link that image to the map link so people can still get to the interactive version that way.
