Throwback Thursday Themes

  • So, under the category of “ideas”.

Retro styles are very popular. Furniture from “Mid-Century” is highly sought after. People pay a lot for vintage denim. And some collect “old school” sneakers.

So how about retro blog themes !

Yes, I am talking about all those cool, old school themes that were recently retired. Sure, they are not “responsive” or ideal for mobile……but they are a throwback to the early
days of blogging (how time flies). What they lack in “mobile responsiveness” they make up for in charm and good memories.

There ARE some people who still want to blog with those classic, retro, old school themes. I want to do so right now !

    Sooooo, what to do ?

How about a win-win for both us AND WordPress.

There are new free themes, and new PREMIUM themes (for which WordPress makes money). How about access to the retired themes for a fee similar to the Premium themes,
but with a big, big caveat…..no support is possible if choosing a “retired” theme. No support from Happiness Engineers, no support from volunteers. WordPress staff DOES NOT
need to upgrade these themes for mobile or in support of new features – – that is the WHOLE point of these charming old themes. But you get to charge money for them ! No harm, no foul,
and perhaps a (small) bit of revenue received. Or maybe it is only me…

And if you don’t wanna go the full monty with making them UN-retired, how about on a case basis for a Premium theme-like fee ? Yeah, that’s right, I would pay it to create a
new blog with super-cool old Ocean Mist, Ambiru, Emire, iNove, Digg 3, Misty Look, and even Treba. Charming all !

So what say you, WP ?

P.S. Hey, if you are now going to sell “bundles” rather than a la carte choices, and require $99/year to customize a free theme, and even more to customize a premium theme,
then let’s MONETIZE those old, dusty, once-loved retro themes that are just sitting in that old steamer trunk up in the attic ! Name your price, WP….(or just set my blog creation
date back to 2010, oftentimes known as ‘the good old days’)…….let’s make a deal (and think outside the box, grasshopper).
