Theme is broken. Reverted back to a different default theme that I do not want.

    I logged into my blog and it looked horrible. the theme had disappeared, it said it had broken and it was reverting back to different default theme. I tried to re-activate it and it gave me an error for that as well. How do I get my already customized twenty sixteen theme back and my blog looking good again?
    I already tried updating it and the plugins that required updating but that didn’t work either.
