Thanks – one more question – could I eventually convert to wordpress.org
-
Thanks you guys for the help with the questions. I had read many of the posts and tried before posting, but I felt like so much was over my head.
So, if I decided to start out with a wordpress.com blog and use CSS customization but down the road wanted to switch to wordpress.org (for who know what reasons :))could I just convert my current info or would everything be lost in cyberspace? I also realize that potentially everything wouldn’t be lost but would just be dead and I could start over somewhere else, but I really am curious about if I could just convert it. Thanks again!!

Yes you could “convert” later on. This would be by exporting your wordpress.com blog contents and importing that xml file into a free wordpress blog downloaded to your own server or one that’s web hosted.

Hi there
I have a follow up question on this. I have a Wp.com blog as well, and I’m looking at converting too. Will all my pages and categories be neatly transfered to Wp.org? I dont want to waste any of the hard work I am putting in now.
Thanks
Jamaal

Yes, please note though that wp.org doesn’t do hosting. It’s just where you download the software from. The regular wordpress software has the same importer and exporter that we do here.
Hope this helps,

Thanks. I have a hosted server so I should be fine. I dont have many development skills. The main reason I want to move to wp.org is that it can accept plugins, and I want to have a newsletter plugin.
Do you feel that is a good enough reason to move?
I dont see the export function in my dashboard – can u please direct me to it?
Thanks -
Dashboard -> Manage -> Export. It will give you a *.xml file after a few seconds that you will need to download to your desktop.
It’s pretty much up to you. If the newsletter is something that you need, then it would be best if you were hosted elsewhere. We can’t deside for you I’m afraid.

Nope. YOu’ll have to install that yourself once you get to your new site. Should be a link to the designer’s website in teh footer.

Yes. There’s instructions on themes over at wp.org

Thanks so much! I found this link on wp.org – its a newsletter manager. Please view it at http://www.semiologic.com/software/newsletter-manager/ – I would appreciate if u can tell me if this is free or must i pay for it? Thanks.
