Tag Surfer use categories

The first time I used tag surfer, it populated itself with my from my categories since I don’t use tags. Because it did that I was assuming not only did it grab posts based on tags but it looked at categories as well. I have not seen any of my posts on tag surfer yet when I click on a category, my post appears on the tag page. Does blog surfer use categories?

I’m amazed it “populated itself”. Please read this support documentation knowing that categories are interchangeable with tags.
