Suddenly getting dozens of spam comments a day from "Facebook accounts"

I’ve had a blog for about 15 months with no problems, and now, all of a sudden, I’m receiving dozens of spam comments every day which are NOT being filtered as spam. All of them are from “users” with Facebook URLs (e.g., “”).

I can delete them or mark them as spam, but that’s a real pain in the ass.

Incidentally, this coincides with my agreeing to WordAds on May 18. Is this the possible cause of the spam influx??

The blog I need help with is:

WordAds would be coincidental and there would be nothing about WordAds that would cause this.

Mark them as spam so that Akismet can learn and start blocking them. Anyone can put anything into the website field when making a comment, so this is just an indication that the spammers are trying something new. They are always adjusting to get around the spam filters and the spam filters are always running to catch up. Welcome to the web.

If you don’t already, go to settings > discussion and select “Comment author must have a previously approved comment” so that they don’t get through and onto your site.
