Still confused – Categories vs Tags & SEO
-
So Categories are like broad general groupings of content and tags are just more specific groupings — Right?
So, how do search engines pick up on content — is it from categories, tags, both? I don’t want to limit people from finding posts or the blog, but I’m using Vigilance and also don’t want tags displayed at the top of each post. Can I just use categories (without tags) and still get content indexed . . . or whatever. My blog is not yet published live. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

. . . Or do the tags & categories not matter for search engines? . . . Still confused, but don’t want to eliminate tags if it means my future blog will never be seen! HELP ~

Tags and categories are the same for wp.com Global tags and also for SEO.

Thanks, . . . Kinda. I seem to have a mental block on this topic (not usually the case :-/). I take it that so long as I use categories judiciously, not using tags will not be an issue. I’ll still be “findable”. Correct? P.S. Thanks, REALLY!

Yes, tags and categories play different roles with respect to how you can organize your blog posts, but they are equal in terms of your blog being “findable” by search engines.
