Spam followers
-
Hi. Lately my blog has been followed by a series of Outlook accounts. At first I thought it was normal. But when every followers’ emails were from Outlook, it’s strange. Do you know what’s the issue? It feels like a virus of some sort to me.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, @touchedecharme
Sorry for the inconvenience, this is a known issue and the WordPress.com team is working on fixing this as we speak.

As @vishalmukadam mentioned, this is a known issue. Until this current wave of spam followers is over, you can turn off email notifications by changing your settings here: https://wordpress.com/me/notifications Click the arrow on the right and uncheck the box next to Site follows > Email.

Has this issue been revolved yet? I am similarly seeing many spam followers on a daily basis. Obviously machine generated/bot email accounts typically from outlook.
I have turned off email notification for “follow” events, but obviously hat is not a good solution since I miss out on genuine followers. -

Hi there, if you haven’t yet, please see the Staff replies in this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/spammy-follows-from-outlookcom-email-addresses/#post-3092975

I am also receiving many outlook account followers but when checked stats, only one is there and I have removed it, but still email notifications continues almost daily

So can we remove or block any followers from outlook.com? I don’t want to post anything until they are gone. It’s like 100 new followers with weird names and little scary being in education.

Hi there, Please see the the Staff replies in this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/spammy-follows-from-outlookcom-email-addresses/#post-3092975 Staff are removing these followers on your site behind the scenes so you don’t have to.
If you have email notifications of new followers enabled, you may wish, until this current wave of spam followers is over, to disable those notifications completely by changing your settings here: https://wordpress.com/me/notificationsClick the arrow on the right and uncheck the box next to Site follows > Email.
If you don’t want to disable email notices of all new followers, see if your email program will allow you to create a filter to flag notifications of outlook followers and have those messages completely skip the inbox, going directly to archive or trash.
Hope that helps somewhat.
