Some problems with The Morning After theme

I’m not very familiar with this new wordpress theme, The Morning After. You can find it at this url:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/themorningafter/If you look at the picture attached in the above article, you’ll see the sunset picture. My first problem is how do I put up a picture at that position?
Secondly,
you’ll notice the thumbnail pictures found in the grey area, Featured Articles. How do I put up those pictures?And lastly,
regarding the “updates”, as seen in the article’s picture, how do I publish those updates?Thank you very much!

Asides heading customizable, set in Appearance > Theme Options > Homepage.
