I saw that some of the newest themes (e.g. Arcane) offer support for a Skype icon in the Social Media menu. But what does one have to enter when creating the menu to make the Skype icon appear and function well?

@galois. I know that in the past it was not possible to use Skype on wordpress.com because wordpress.com does not support Javascript. However, in the description of the newest themes (e.g. Arcane and Prosperity, both launched March 2016), it is said that one can include a Skype icon in the social menu. So, I want to know how one can make that icon appear and work.

@rootjosh. Of course, we understand that we set it up using the Social Menu. But what kind of “custom link” do we enter then for a Skype icon?
For Facebook it is something like “http://facebook.com/myname” and for Twitter it is “http://facebook.com/myname”, and for email “mailto:(email redacted)” – but what do we have to enter for a Skype link?

So, the short answer is….there really is no way to do that. It will take a change to the WordPress.com core in order to enable it.

This page explains somewhat:

But of course, the solution suggested there does not work on WordPress.com sites.

So I expect we will be removing the mention of a Skype button from the any theme pages that list it as available.
