Secondary school

  • At least GC has been openly supportive of the need for a secondary school. Tell me Mr Bacon, expecting a rasher -ionale :-) response here – what do you actually mean by the Focus statement = we will act to improve availability of school places for local education – does it mean bulging classes until the burst at the seams. ? Answer pls.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a web site of your own, where you could post your thoughts and ask questions of people? That sure would be better than using this forum, which is designed so people can make suggestions about how the WordPress.com software should work.

  • It’s spam, isn’t it?

  • Quite possibly, but I couldn’t help myself.

  • The blog is empty so though I could be wrong I’m concluding this is yet another forum spammer.

  • There seems to be some weird thing going around where people put stuff like this and tag it Login. I don’t know what that’s about.

  • I’ve noticed that too.

  • Err, no. Just a humble mother, loosing sleep because my kid is not going to have travel over 90 miles a week just to get to and from school, along with 266 othe SOW children. But we do………………….. it’s been going for months before the local elections, pls keep up. These are things that matter – can’t wait until Mr Fry, oops Bacon knocks on my door, will be demanding answers pls.

  • Oh yeah, we were right. It’s a spammer for sure and there’s the external link dropping evidence.

  • No, not a spammer. you can find us at all over the place.

http://sowfreeschoolgroup.org.uk, plus look in the local press and TV and BBC radio Berks, links all there on our FB page, nothing to hide, also c&p letter to officer at WBC = no spam about this at all – it is reality not being addressed by the LD’s. But still no answer to your Focus claim. Anwser pls and in the spirit of openness and communication SOW will publish it.

As we are now representing over 300 (and growing) parents we remain extremely vocal and active in representing their views and pushing forward the need and delivery date for a South of Wokingham secondary school.
Having spoken to both the DfE and our Education Partners, they both fully concur that halting our bid in light of WBC now guaranteeing an Academy in September 2016 was the right action for us to take in the circumstances which we were put in.

Just to clarify the reason why we made our decision was because both SOW and WBC would be talking to the same parents, at the same time, about the same school that would no doubt land-up in the same location.

Both the Group, DfE, Education Partners and many of the parents we have spoken to all agree that this would not only confuse parents, but most people (evident by the negative and somewhat appalling reaction we received to our bid from the PC’s and most of WBC Cllrs) would perceive us to be a threat rather than a win/win solution to the school place problem, even though we would have been to be able to possibly deliver this school for the benefit of the community by next year – had they all had the sense to work with us, opposed to against us.

Therefore, on behalf of the parents we now represent, we would like to officially raise an over-riding concern that WBC will not be able to deliver this permanent school at the guaranteed time of September 2016.
Despite sending emails to Rob Stanton to not only re-affirm his commitment but also honour his pledge that no planning permission would be given for the SDL until a secondary school was provided, he has failed to respond.

Therefore we are to taking this matter up at ‘officer’ level.
Through the New Schools Network we note that several local authorities are actively seeking Education Providers to work with in order to open schools in 2016.

We also note from your presentation in March that WBC said that this part of your project time-line would not take place until mid-2015.
As we fully understand this process and having contacted many of the Provider’s in the market-place, in which most of them stated they were either at capacity or not considering taking on any further Academy/Free School requests, we believe WBC’s stated timescales will be too late and put at ‘severe risk’ its stated guarantee of opening a permanent secondary school in 2016.

As you are aware we had already found a partner and was approaching the advance stage of our preparing our bid!
In addition to this, several of your member’s are now making contradictory public statements to the one they gave parents in March 2014.
David Lee – ‘we will do our best to get you a school’ (which many considered to be immensely patronising).

Rob Stanton/Mike Gore – now claiming a school will be provided before any major housing development is under way – this could indicate the school will not be built until as late as 2018.
John Kaiser stated at an Arborfield Community Steering Group that schools will continue to be expanded to meet further demand and should wait and see what is on the PA being put forward in the summer.

This is something we are extremely confused and concerned about as to why he said this as it will be for the Governing bodies to decide this – if they have space available.

But as we are now aware it will be only Emmbrook and Bulmershe which may have spaces in 2016, meaning children, mine included, may have to travel over 90 miles a week just to get to and from school, this along with the cost to the Council Tax Payer for transportation is simply not acceptable. Also, we do not have that luxury of time to wait to see what developers are proposing and may eventually deliver!
Our members are now not only asking for a categorical re-assurance from you, as well as councillors, that a permanent secondary school will be in place by September 2016 but also dates are set for meetings to discuss providers etc. take place as soon as possible and the original time-line is brought forward to reflect the fact that a Provider may be difficult to secure.

I hope you understand the immense frustration and negative attitude that parents now have towards WBC regarding this school situation.
However, when it’s your child facing the prospect of unacceptable school journey times and a lack of choice of school in which to choose. I can guarantee that you too would fight to change things before it’s too late – especially when we all had the chance and the time to do something about it.

    With warm regards

  • Eagerly awaiting your response to all this?

  • I hope you understand that this is hilarious to us. People like you managed to figure out how to reproduce? Oh, pull the other one!

  • PS thanks for the link to Facebook. FB takes spam seriously as well, and deletes groups that spam other sites.
