The blog I need help with is handmadehomage.com.

You use the Koi theme in that site.

  • I changed to the koi theme because I got so frustrated. I would prefer the Matala theme if there is any way to revert it to the original. I even tried changing back from koi to Matala, but it didn’t work. I realize that I did something while trying to customize colors, but I have no idea what. Can you help me? I will switch back to Matala if that will help.

  • A follow up to my recent response explaining the koi theme: I have now switched back to Matala, so you can see what the problem is. I apologize for any confusion. I know that I have done something to the settings while trying to customize but have no idea what. If you can help me revert Matala to its original appearance I will not tinker with the color settings again.

  • If you had widgets with Matala, you can recover them from the “inactives” area.

  • Activate Matala again. Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Background
Remove the background image you uploaded and remove any background color you set there and the original graphic display will reappear.

  • Yes, I saw online that is a possible solution. I found the widget link but cannot find “inactives.” Please also understand that all of this is very new to me. Will you explain exactly where the “inactives” area is?

  • Oops! Repetition was not intended. I’m sorry I clicked twice and sounded like a parrot.

  • Adding Widgets

To add a widget, drag the widget from the Available Widgets or Inactive Widgets area on the left into the Sidebar area on the right. When you see a dashed line appear, you can drop the widget into place.

  • Timethief, thanks for your suggestion, but I have already tried that. It isn’t working. The entire colorful header image and the background images that look like torn paper are all gone. The text is there but everything else is white. This is very frustrating. I have also noticed that others have had this issue but I cannot find a good solution. I saw one old forum exchange in which the “Happiness Engineer” simply restored it for the client. I do hope that someone can do this for me.

  • Good going. You restored the original graphics. Clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache if you cannot see them.

  • Galois, which sidebar? I am so appreciative of your help, but you are going to have to be more specific. I’m very sorry, but I think you are assuming I have knowledge and skill that I don’t have. You’re going to have to tell me exactly where to find Available Widgets and Inactive Widgets, because those choices are not showing up when I click “Widgets.”

  • Oh, okay, Timethief. I will try that. Thanks!

  • Timethief and Galois, thank you both so much for your assistance. I cleared the cache and now the original Matala design is back. Thanks again, and I apologize for my extreme ignorance.

  • You’re welcome & best wishes to you. :)
