require password to be entered to view page each time

    I’ve seen that the way to ensure that a password is entered each time (for example, to protect content on a shared computer) is to edit a .php file. I can’t see how to do this? Is it even possible in the free version?

    Hey hopenothatemcr,

    Yes it is available in free version. You can also protect your content with password. To enable password just follow the steps below.

    PROTECT YOUR POST BY PASSWORD

    Steps-1: Login to your dashboard and go to Post > All Post or Add New.

    Steps-2: In the post area look at your Right Sidebar. You can see Visibility with an eye symbol. You also see an Edit option. Click on it.

    Steps-3: When you click on Edit button, it open options. Check the box Password Protected.

    Steps-4: Now you can see the password field option. Input your password and Click Ok.

    Steps-5: Now Publish or Update the post.

    You are all done! When a visitor try to see the post they need to enter the password you typed.

    Note: Don’t use your wordpress password.

    Thanks for the reply, but that wasn’t quite my question. I need the user to enter the password each time they look at content, not just the first time they do.

    When you enter a password it is ‘remembered’. If anyone is using a shared PC it means that password protected content will be available to anyone using the PC. I believe this is a cookie issue which previously manageable using one of the .php files – but this is no longer available.

    If I cannot reduce the time that the password is remembered to something reasonable like 20 minutes I’ll need to give up on this project.

    Yep. There is set a cookie when someone entered the password and browser will give a options to save it. But Im sorry there is no other way to reduce the time or stop setting cookies.

    That’s a real shame, as that’s going to make password protection pointless for many – worse still it gives the impression of security without the reality.
    I’ll need to rethink. Thanks for clarifying.
