REdirect single pages to new single pages

  • Hi! I have created a self hosted website on http://www.judesdiner.com. I have imported all the content from http://www.judesdiner.wordpress.com so now I can delete this website. BUT, there’s a lot of traffic still going there and I would like to redirect every old page to every new page. Is that possible?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Yes you can purchase a site redirect upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/ Be sure you are logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog go to > Dashboard > Store

I have tagged this thread for Staff help with that purchase. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. Note there is a backlog so you will have to wait patiently for Staff help.

  • Thank you for your response, but this is not really my question. I know I can redirect my whole domain, but what I would like is to redirect a single “old” page to a single “new” page so visitors are directed to the right page instead of my homepage.

    Thank you for your help.

    Kind regards,

    Judith

  • Hi Judith,

The Site Redirect upgrade will redirect every post or page on your old site to the same post or page on the new site, as long as the two sites us the same permalink structure. For example, this page on your old site:

Amandelspijs – zo gemaakt en zoooo lekker!

    would be redirected here:

    http://www.judesdiner.com/2014/10/04/amandelspijs-zo-gemaakt-en-zoooo-lekker/

Please let me know if you have any other questions about that. :)

  • Hi Rachel,

Thank you for your reply, unfortunately my new website has different permalink structures. To be honest I have no idea how they have been made :(

Is there any way that I can manually add the permalink that should be referred to for every page/article? I know it is a lot of work but it would be worth it.

If this is not possible and I buy the upgrade, will all posts or page be redirected to the homepage?

    Thanx for your help!

    Kind regards,

    Judith

  • Hi Judith,

If your site has a different permalink structure, WordPress will do its best to redirect each post or page to the corresponding post or page on the new site (so the redirect may still work — it won’t just direct visitors to the home page) but there’s no guarantee it will get visitors to the right place.

If you’d like to set up your permalinks to match, you can use the WordPress.org support page to customize the permalinks on your new site. If you run into questions about that, or if you’d like to look into other options for redirecting specific links on your new site, the folks in the WordPress.org forums can help.

  • Hi! Thank you for all the details. I have redirected my old site and changed the permalink, but every link I click directs to a error 404 page. I was expecting that if the redirect to the exact page didn’t work, at least it would redirect to the homepage. Can I still make that happen?

At this moment, the whole redirect is not working so that means that I have to cancel it, that would be a real shame as the idea is exactly what I want!

  • It is working just fine from what I can see. Please give us some exact links, starting with http, which are not working for you. Do not cancel it or you’ll be back to the start.

  • That’s strange! It works now. I think I was a little bit impatient. Sorry :~

Thanx for all your help! Me is very happy now :)
