Redirect going from wordpress.com to name.mydomain.com

  • Hi. I’m stuck on an attempt to get colleenfriesen.wordpress.com to redirect to travelinglight.colleenfriesen.com.

    1. We have purchased the domain mapping upgrade.
    2. The host for colleenfriesen.com does not permit access to cname records and I can’t find how to view the changes we are asking them to make to ensure they are correct.
    3. travelinglight.wordpress.com points to/brings up content from the /public_html/blog/ folder on her hosting account

When I follow the directions for subdomain mapping from http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/redirecting-your-blog/ and update the primary domain in the wordpress.com blog dashboard to travelinglight.colleenfriesen.com I get a 500 Internal Server error when I try loading the redirected colleenfriesen.wordpress.com address (which should reroute to travelinglight.colleenfriesen.com) so I’ve had to turn off the domain mapping.

The blog content now exists in two places, which is not going to make Google happy. I’m beginning to think the subdomain mapping is only to get the subdomain address to point to the wordpress.com and that there isn’t a method to get the name.wordpress.com address to bring up a completely different web site.

    Can anyone help?
