redesign?
-
hi, I’ve noticed in the last few months that someone seems to have re-designed WordPress , with something called block editing in it. Or it Gutenberg? I’m afraid that like many WordPress users, I’m not an expert on computers so I don’t really know what ihas been done to change it. All I know is that what was once a delightfully simple blog site to use is no longer simple. I have tried going using the ‘Classic Block’ option that is offered, but it keeps seeming to revert to the more complicated new one. Why has it been changed? I appreciate it may have some additional features, but I don’t really need them, and what is more, I don’t have the time to start ploughing through lots of additional instructions to work out how to use it. Is there any way I can go back to the original?

Hi there,
The block editor has been the default editor in the open source WordPress software ever since WordPress 5.0 was released on WordPress.org in December 2018. We maintained our own in-house version of the classic editor while the block editor included in the WordPress software was still having its kinks ironed out, but that classic editor has now been removed from WordPress.com.
The block editor is now the only editor available on WordPress.com, just like in the open source WordPress software, though you can still use the classic block inside the editor for a similar editing experience to the old WordPress editor.
You can find an overview on how to use the block editor at https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/, and instructions how to use the classic block inside that editor at https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
